NAAAP-Seattle Board
Thank you for your interest in the NAAAP-Seattle Elections!
The following application package is for the available positions on the NAAAP-Seattle Board. As
a Board Member, you will work closely with the members of the Board and other leaders to
guide and grow an organization dedicated to connecting Asian American professionals through
professional development, networking, and community outreach. We sincerely appreciate your
enthusiasm and look forward to both your participation in the election process and your
contribution to this organization.
About the National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP):
The National Association of Asian American Professionals is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
with more than 30 chapters across the United States and Canada. NAAAP-Seattle is the Seattle
Chapter of the National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP), formerly known as
Asian MBA, was founded in 1979.
NAAAP-Seattle is dedicated to the improvement of the Asian American community by
promoting leadership, career development, educational exchange, professional networking,
social networking, and civic responsibilities.
Furthermore, NAAAP-Seattle has a network with more than 4,500 members in chapters across the
country. The membership is open to all interested in the Asian American community, regardless
of ethnicity, socioeconomic status or creed. Current members include individuals from a range
of professional backgrounds that include managers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.
About the NAAAP-Seattle Board of Directors (Board):
The NAAAP-Seattle Board of Directors (Board) sets direction, determines goals and priorities and
develops events and activities to promote the development of Asian leaders in the Greater
Seattle Area. The Board is composed of 8 leaders, each whom serves for two years in an
important leadership capacity. Each Board member may cast a vote on decisions affecting
NAAAP-Seattle. In order to preserve Board continuity, Board members begin their calendar
terms (January through December) with staggered terms. (Four Board members begin their
terms in one year, and four Board members beginning their terms the following year.)
Ideally, prospective Board members will have had experience in a professional or community
leadership role and still have a passion for working with other motivated leaders to make a
difference. We encourage people from all backgrounds and functions to be a part of our
diverse leadership team.

About the Responsibilities of a Board Member:






Make a meaningful contribution to the organization and promote NAAAP-Seattle’s
mission
Attend Board meetings and functions, such as special events; serve on committees and
offer to take on special assignments
Be informed about the organization’s mission, services, policies, and programs
Inform others about the organization; this may also include attending other non-profit or
community organizations’ fundraising dinners
Follow conflict of interest and confidentiality policies
Assist the Board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities

Application Instructions:


You must be a current NAAAP-Seattle member to be eligible to run for Elections.
All Board positions are for a two year term that begins on January 1st. Applicants may
apply for multiple Board positions, but may only serve in one Board position at a time.

To apply, please send an email to elections@naaapseattle.org with the following
attachments:
o A completed NAAAP-Seattle Elections application form
o A copy of your resume (2 pages maximum).

All applications for NAAAP-Seattle Board of Directors positions are due to the Elections
Committee at elections@naaapseattle.org.
On Election Day, each candidate will be asked to present a 5-minute presentation on
why he or she is the best candidate for each respective position. A 10-minute question
and answer period for each candidate will follow for each Board position.
