- This unit will introduce students to the other regions of what is today modern
Canada. It will have an emphasis on the varying geography and climate in Canada
as we move westward from the newly formed Confederation. New factors and
issues in the new dominion of Canada will be learnt about. Students will find
importance and value in learning more about Canada’s early years in this unit.
- Chapter 3 of Horizons: Canada Moves West, Pages: 90-123.
- We will be learning about:
 Western Canadian geography
 The importance of place in Canada
 The different physical regions of Canada
 Climate, temperature and water in Canada
 Ecosystems and biomes
 Canadian settlement and population post-confederation
 Mapping Canadian boundaries
 Aboriginal territories and dispute of land
 The creation of Nunavut
- At the end of this unit we will have a unit test or project that will be based on
key themes and ideas we have learnt about the Western Canada and it’s geography
and climate.

Bedrock, Seismologist, Richter Scale, Convection, Humus, Erosion, Slough,
