Curricular offerings: The 9th graders will take the following full-year courses - English, Math, Science and Physical Education. The 10th graders will take the following full-year courses - English, Math, Science, Modern World History and Physical Education. Finally, 10th graders will be able to choose one elective course. Drivers Education will be offered during 0 or 7th period. We are encouraged to develop innovative structures that meet the needs of our students including Academies and Schools Within Schools. Part of this innovation is to extend our offerings during 0 and 7th period. I also have questions later on for those interested in these options. Many faculty members are talking about becoming a part of an Academy, Team, School Within A School (SWAS), AVID Program. We have a Business Academy (CASA) and an Engineering Tech Prep Academy now. Also in the planning for the not too distant future are Academies in Arts and Communication, and Health and Human Services. In addition, we are continuing our AVID program and would very much like to start a SWAS program. These structures have some tremendous advantages for students and in the areas of curriculum coordination and classroom management. Planning these structures in a master schedule is not a particularly difficult matter, but it absolutely takes planning. Once a master schedule is built, the addition of an alternative teaching structure just about requires building a new master schedule. It may be “Legal” for you to teach subjects beyond the limits of your credential when teaching within an alternative structure.
