We are now in the process of planning the master schedule for the next school year.
Your input will be valuable throughout the planning stages. This is one of several ways in which
you will be able to provide information and make statements about course preferences,
schedules, room assignments and programs. Please respond to ALL sections and return to the
main office by Feb 14th. Thank You!!
There is much work to do and very little time to get it done. Your help and cooperation
in filling out this survey by the deadline is sincerely appreciated.
Curricular offerings:
The 9th graders will take the following full-year courses - English, Math, Science and
Physical Education. In addition, the 9th graders will have a semester of Cultural Geography,
which will rotate, with a semester of Health/Careers. Finally, 9th graders will be able to choose
one elective course.
The 10th graders will take the following full-year courses - English, Math, Science,
Modern World History and Physical Education. Finally, 10th graders will be able to choose one
elective course. Drivers Education will be offered during 0 or 7th period.
We are encouraged to develop innovative structures that meet the needs of our
students including Academies and Schools Within Schools. Part of this innovation is to extend
our offerings during 0 and 7th period. I also have questions later on for those interested in
these options.

Many faculty members are talking about becoming a part of an Academy, Team, School
Within A School (SWAS), AVID Program. We have a Business Academy (CASA) and an
Engineering Tech Prep Academy now. Also in the planning for the not too distant future are
Academies in Arts and Communication, and Health and Human Services. In addition, we are
continuing our AVID program and would very much like to start a SWAS program. These
structures have some tremendous advantages for students and in the areas of curriculum
coordination and classroom management. Planning these structures in a master schedule is not
a particularly difficult matter, but it absolutely takes planning. Once a master schedule is built,
the addition of an alternative teaching structure just about requires building a new master
schedule. If you are interested in being part of any of the above-mentioned alternative teaching

this one.

5. It may be “Legal” for you to teach subjects beyond the limits of your credential when
teaching within an alternative structure. If so, what other subjects / courses would you be able
to teach (especially in the elective area)?

6. Please propose your PERFECT class schedule. Please understand that it is impossible to
create a master schedule containing all “perfect” schedules. I do like to know however, so if an
opportunity to come close presents itself, I will be able to make an effort to accomplish it. If
prep during a particular period is significant for you, please indicate your reasons. Please
understand that prep period placement is generally not a top priority in the master schedule
building process. This year there could be three options for your duty day - 0 period through
5th period, 1st period through 6th period, and 2nd period through 7th period. The shifting to
schedules that include 0 and 7th will be dependent on student sign ups. In your perfect class
schedule list below, please include a course you would like to teach during either 0 period or
7th period (if you wish to teach during one of these times). Don’t forget, we need someone to

While it would be wonderful if all PERFECT schedules could be honored, it just isn't possible in
most cases. When not possible, what criteria should be used in making assignment decisions?

9. We have done a lot of talk about improving transitions especially in terms of curriculum
coordination. This might be your real opportunity to work on this. If you could move down to
the 8th grade (or 7th or 6th or…), teach a group of students for whatever period of time that it
takes and return with your group of students as 9th graders, would you do it?

11. For a number of reasons, including the difficulty we have finding qualified teachers
especially in July and August, it is important to know your plans for the future as early as
possible. Are you planning on returning to teach here next year? Are you planning to retire in
the next couple of years? Are you planning to transfer? (You are absolutely NOT required to
provide this information at this time, so please do not feel like you have to write anything in
this space. Early notice just helps and is sincerely appreciated, but answering this is optional)

12. As you know, we will be under construction for the next three years. The phasing of our
modernization was given out at our staff meeting. While it may be an understatement to say
that we will be inconvenienced during this period of time, it is possible to reduce the degree of
our inconvenience through careful planning. Please provide any suggestions or questions that
you may have relative to the construction that will be going on during the next three years.
Please understand that the phasing is set and cannot be changed at this point. This means that
“do my room over the summer” is not a realistic suggestion. Your suggestions are sincerely
