Campbell College Ring of Peace An incredible opportunity has come our way. You will recall that last year Robin Dunseath (3864) devised a Ring of Peace programme to commemorate the part played by OCs in World War 1. It consisted of passing a simple peace message around the world by phone. The scheme caught the imagination of many and in the end, 100 messengers in 43 countries took part. Amongst the people who congratulated Robin were Prince Harry, David Cameron and Di Lees, the Director General of the Imperial War Museum. Now, 2015 will see The Ring of Peace featuring as a major global event which will climax with the Day of the Ring, which will be on Monday September 21st. This is also the UN International Day for Peace. There will be a Core Ring of 100 countries and a schools Ring of 100 schools. To pay tribute to our role in devising the concept, we are to have a special Campbell College Ring to pay tribute to those OCs who fell in World War 1. Our very special Ring will feature 126 Old Campbellians, each representing one of the fallen. In passing on the message, each will name the person they represent, thus giving them individual acknowledgement rather than as a group. Will you be one of those Old Campbellians? Here is all you will have to do. On September 21st take a phone call from a fellow OC, listen to the message (devised by a current Campbellian), and then pass it on to the next OC on the list, mentioning the fallen OC that you have been allocated. The Ring message will start and end at the school and will ultimately be passed on to the UN. Honestly, it is easy, you make phone calls every day. You will be told who is phoning you, and roughly at what time within half an hour, and then you will also be given the name and phone number and e-mail of the person you are going to phone. If anything goes wrong, we have a proven system of re-setting the Ring. If something comes up that prevents you from making the call, we have a system for handling that as well-remember we did this last year with 100 messengers, many of whom could not speak English-and it worked fine. You may feel you want to do it, but are concerned about committing yourself to do something so far ahead....well, don’t let that deter you from offering. You can use either land line or mobile. We can cope with late pull outs, too!!!! If you would like to take part, please e-mail Walter Murphy at waltermurphy@oldcampbellians.co.uk and send a copy to Robindunseath@hotmail.com, and we will send you more information. If you do, and you have a link with one of the fallen and would like to represent him, let us know that too. If you are one of the 25 OCs who have already heard about The Ring and have volunteered, we already have your names so you need take no action. Finally, our Ring will be started by a present student, which means we are involving the present generation of students, the present generation of OCs, and the past.
