Organism X: Ecology Project 2015 Name: PART C: Ecological Relationships Due Date: Part C: What other organisms live in the same ecological community as Organism X? What are the different ways organisms interact with Organism X? TASK: Visual Product and Species Interactions. This section includes a visual and written portion. On plain paper, complete the following: 1. Create a colored drawing of your organism. This visual will also include at least three other organisms that your Organism X interacts with in the background. These will be drawn in black and white and must showcase an example of three different species interactions. Choose from the list: predation, parasitism, competition, commensalism, mutualism, amensalism, and neutralism. You cannot use an interaction more than once (ex. you cannot have four predation relationships) and human interaction may only be included once. Each organism in the drawing should be labeled with its common name and the type of species interaction shared with Organism X. The drawings need to fill the space on the page. Your Organism X must be the focal point of the visual. In a typed document, complete the following: 2. Your written paper will include a claim, evidence, reasoning statement about each of the species interactions in your visual product. a. Use complete sentences to CLAIM which species interaction is shown in your illustration. b. Use EVIDENCE from your research to justify why each interaction is predation, parasitism, competition, commensalism, mutualism, amensalism or neutralism. Evidence statements must be specific and explain how each organism is helped, harmed or neutral based on the relationship with the other organism. c. Conclude with a REASONING statement that connects your CLAIM to the EVIDENCE presented. Example of a supporting Cl-Ev-R Statement: The shark and the cleaner fish have a mutualism relationship. The shark is cleaned of algae, parasites and fungus so it is healthier and the cleaner fish gets food to sustain their health and growth. Since both species benefit from their interaction this is an example of mutualism. Organism X: Ecology Project 2015 Name: PART C: Ecological Relationships Due Date: Exceeding The drawing has a high level of neatness and detail. Visual Product (Drawing) The drawing contains more than 3 other organisms that interact with Organism X. It has the power to “wow” the viewer. Meeting The drawing has the following requirements: Organism X is drawn in color and is the focal point of the visual. Approaching One or two of the requirements are not met. Some parts may contain details, but the drawing appears somewhat unfinished. Beginning Most of the requirements are not met. The drawing appears messy and /or incomplete. Three other organisms are drawn in black and white in the background. Each organism is labeled with its common name and the type of interaction shared with Org. X. Professionalism Species Interactions (Written) The artwork is neat, and fills the page. Everything in Meeting PLUS: More than three species interactions are included and explained with a claim, evidence, reasoning statement. Assignment is typed, free of grammar and spelling errors, AND turned in on time. All three species interactions are depicted and identified correctly. A claim, evidence, reasoning statement for each interaction shows a clear understanding of the interaction. Assignment is typed, has few grammar and/or spelling errors OR is turned in by 4:00pm on the due date. SELF-SCORE _________. Reasoning/Comments: Two species interactions are identified correctly. Claims, evidence, reasoning statements for each interaction are incomplete or incorrect. Assignment is handwritten, has multiple grammar and/or spelling errors OR is turned in one day late. Less than two species interactions are identified correctly. Claim, evidence, reasoning statements for each interaction are incomplete or incorrect. Assignment is handwritten, has many grammar and/or spelling errors OR is turned in two or more days late. NE
