Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Library Services Liaison in the Savitt Medical Library provides advanced information services to University of Nevada School of Medicine (UNSOM) faculty with a special focus on the Clinical Adjunct Faculty population. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating and developing instructional offerings to UNSOM faculty regarding the use of learning technology resources available at the School of Medicine. This includes the utilization of mobile technologies to locate health sciences information as well as evaluating the usefulness of recommended technologies. Working closely with the Savitt Medical Library Director and staff, the position focuses on the discovery, assessment, and integration of new approaches to deliver informational resources and educational services to UNSOM faculty. The incumbent participates in general Library duties including the provision of reference and instruction services. The position reports to the Director of the Savitt Medical Library under the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, UNSOM. 2. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 30% - Collaboration and Coordination of Liaison Services Act as point of contact for all Clinical Adjunct Faculty questions including how to access online resources, how to install and utilize mobile technology, how to effectively search for information, how to manage citations, etc. Collaborate with the Office of Academic Affairs to coordinate services and information to Clinical Adjunct Faculty Develop and implement an assessment program for the services offered and perform follow-up adjustments to the services based on findings Develop a marketing plan to reach Clinical Adjunct Faculty across the state, i.e., welcome package of services for new hires, periodic training in northern and southern Nevada locations; introduction of new mobile applications to staff, create training classes, etc. Monitor current trends in library liaison support programs and library CME offerings Monitor trends in library services and programs related to UNSOM strategic initiatives Create and maintain policies and procedures with respect to support for Clinical Adjunct Faculty 30% - Library Instruction for UNSOM Faculty Develop and provide instruction and technical support activities utilizing a variety of media: online through webinars, instant messaging, email, phone, and in person; submit training for certification credit approval Build UNSOM faculty competencies in information retrieval and management skills, raise awareness of important clinical decision support tools, and assist in improving access to essential library resources Develop and offer webinars and workshops targeted at UNSOM faculty Acquire CME certification for library instructional offerings Perform ongoing needs assessments to determine the types of training and services needed by our Clinical Adjunct Faculty Utilize online distance instruction tools to provide remote support, i.e., Ready Talk, WebCampus, etc. Position Description – Library Services Liaison Page 3 25% - Information Technologies Support and Promotion Investigate and promote web and mobile applications utilized for health information access and management Monitor trends in technological media such as mobile medical applications, social media, and citation management Evaluate mobile medical applications for reliability, credibility, ease-of-use, cost, and other usability issues Develop a training program for Library staff on mobile technologies and on social media Develop a social media policy for the Library that parallels policies in place at UNSOM and the University of Nevada, Reno Build strong relationships and communication with Savitt Library team and Knowledge Center librarians with regard to emerging technologies and current applications Develop a plan to implement and create sustained use of promotional outlets for Library services and resources including Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc. 15% - General Library Responsibilities and Duties Provide assistance with general library reference and instructional services Develop and maintain web-based subject guides for the Savitt Medical Library Edit the monthly Savitt E-Minute News Bulletin Assist Director with special projects Travel to southern Nevada to present training to faculty at UNSOM 3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or the university as a whole. Level of Freedom The Library Services Liaison works independently to develop strong relationships and communication with the UNSOM Clinical Adjunct Faculty, under the general supervision of the Library Director. Additionally, the incumbent works in collaboration with the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) and ensures strong communications with OAA and with the Library Director in regard to new programs and services for Clinical Adjunct Faculty. The position has latitude in the delivery of library instruction and services to the Clinical Adjunct Faculty and in the design and presentation of information. The incumbent works independently in the selection and testing of mobile medical apps but seeks advance approval from the Director for any purchases. The Director has oversight of program goals and gives overall approval of the marketing plan and training development. Impact The work of the Faculty Services Liaison is highly visible to UNSOM faculty and administration and to the Savitt Medical Library Team. Decisions and performance have a direct impact on the ability of the Library to serve the UNSOM Adjunct Faculty population and indirectly on the UNSOM student population. Failure to provide these services would impact the unit’s ability to provide quality programs and services, which in turn impact the academic, research, and patient care success of UNSOM. 4.
