The 2015 Biology Undergraduate Scholars Program-

Summer Honors Research (BUSP-SHR)

The Biology Undergraduate Scholars Program-Summer Honors Research (BUSP-SHR) provides funds for outstanding Junior- and Senior-level undergraduate students in biology to pursue intensive, faculty-supervised summer research. The 10-week program begins June 22, 2015 and ends August 28, 2015. Students will present their research at a symposium on August 28, 2015. A $3,420 stipend will be awarded to those admitted to the

program. After summer, continuation in the BUSP-Honors program will be evaluated by the Director.

Applicants must be registered UC Davis undergraduates during the quarter in which the application is submitted, and must have continuing student status during the summer in which the research is conducted.

Accepted students must be willing, if selected by the Director, to present their research at the Annual

Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) held in November. Extra meeting times

during Fall Quarter will be required in preparation for this conference.

Because the program is intended to provide an opportunity for intensive research, students are required to

be present throughout the entire 10-week period and participate in the symposium. Students may, with the consent of their faculty sponsor and the Program Director, enroll in summer course work during the program.

Faculty-student dialogue is an important component of the BUSP-SHR experience. Therefore, sponsoring professors are expected to participate in two meetings [the orientation meeting and one meeting where the faculty member leads (with his/her student) a discussion of their project]. Faculty members are encouraged to attend the poster symposium at which students will give their final presentations.
