Qualifications:Substantive appointment as Consultant in an Acute Care Speciality in NHSS Proposed focus:Simulation Based Medical Education for Paediatric Anaesthesia SUMMARY Applications are invited from consultant grade doctors with appropriate acute care and educational experience for the posts of Educational Co-ordinator in the Scottish Clinical Simulation Centre (SCSC) based in Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert.Having originally opened in 1998 at Stirling Royal Infirmaryas a training hub for anaesthetists, the scope of the centre has markedly extended to involve a wide range of disciplines. The centre now houses a high fidelity human patient simulator along with several other intermediate and lower fidelity models and provides high fidelity simulation-based education for undergraduate and postgraduate doctors and other health care professionals involved in the delivery of acute health care across Scotland. The successful applicant would join a small team of specialty-based educational co-ordinators and would be responsible for the development, co-ordination and delivery of courses to address the educational needs of those involved in paediatrics and paediatric anaesthesia in Scotland. This postarisesdue to the combined effect of expansion in the educational service and a reorganisation of job plan for a current incumbent and will be for a period of 2 years in the first instance. DUTIES OF THE POSTS The posts offer a unique combination of teaching and research opportunities, both within this purpose-built facility as well as in a wider educational context in the NHS in Scotland. Specifically: 1. Teaching The post holder will participate in teaching/delivery of new and existing courses in the simulation and clinical skills environment. This will include specialty specific and multiprofessional groups at both undergraduate and postgraduate/post qualified levels. 2. Course Development Each of the educational co-ordinators has a key role within the SCSC team, working together to design, co-ordinate and deliver courses to address individual specialty needs o Working with specialty groups involved in undergraduate medical and speciality training to identify learning needs o Working with the centre director and other educational co-ordinators to develop training to address learning needs o Working with healthcare groups to identify & develop faculty to be involved in the delivery of courses o Working with these faculty to design courses and appropriate educational support materials o Ensuring high quality course delivery through evaluation and audit. 3. Research Members of the SCSC team are actively involved in the following key project areas: Crisis Resource Management and Human factors involved in error or adverse clinical outcomes; assessment of performance; transfer of skills and competences to the clinical workplace; the management of risk and delivery of safe practice in a specific area of clinical service. The successful applicant would be supported and encouraged to engage with these and future research threads. It is expected also that activity undertaken whilst in post will result in providing presentations to local, regional, national and international groups or meetings, and also publication of abstracts and research papers as a member of the SCSC team. MANAGEMENT ARRANGEMENTS The post holder will report to the Director of the Scottish Clinical Simulation Centre and work alongside members of the SCSC team. Salary This is a part-time position based on a 1PA appointment and the salary is in accordance with the nationally agreed salary scales.
