Guests in attendance: None
II. National board representative report – Pamela Wu: Our chapter assignment is special
awards and AAJA Sacramento will be working with Hawaii chapter. Next national
board meeting is March 23-24. UNITY early-bird registration deadline is March 16.
National is encouraging applications for ELP. MediaWatch has been very active
recently with much of the coverage of Jeremy Lin (like the AAJA Media Watch’s
Facebook page for more updates).
III. Overview of chapter finances – Sandy Louey: The chapter submitted everything to
national on time. The chapter got a $500 membership dues check, in part because
Bobby Calvan was a platinum member.
IV. Review and act on convention stipends: $3,000 was allocated in budget for stipends
and the chapter received seven applicants. The consensus was that $450 be awarded
to six applicants, with the seventh – Jack Chang – receiving $300 because he is
overseas and won’t be able to assist with volunteer duties as much as the others.
Separate votes will be needed because some board members applied for stipends and
will have to recuse themselves from voting on their own application.

V. Internships
a) Update about co-sponsoring summer internship with Sacramento Bee including
proposed application and selection deadlines – Matt Kawahara: Bee is interested
in a reporter internship first, but would consider a copy editor as well. Matt will
provide an update once he speaks to the Bee editors who will be in charge of
choosing the intern.
b) TV stations: No news yet – Pam will be talking to TV stations. The chapter will
choose the intern and pay for all of the intern’s salary. Lonnie reported that
Fox40’s internship coordinator is interested in participating.
VI. Community outreach – review and act on sponsorship/event requests
a) Events attended in January and February: Sandy and Linda attended Lunar New
Year mixer at Asian chamber. Sandy attended an Asian legislative group.

the event and is looking for a co-emcee. The chapter will pay half of the ticket
price for any members who choose to attend.
c) Pacific Rim Street Fest – May 20: The cost of a booth and an ad has been
combined and is now $1,700.

the workshop. Judy hasn’t heard back on a location yet; the chapter is hoping for
Comcast as a first choice and the sheriff’s department south substation as a second

the location is finalized, we can move forward in confirming speaker and other
