Campo Verde High School 2015-2016 Algebra 1 Blake Keyser Blake.keyser@gilbertschools.net Room 210 Virtual Classroom: http://moodle2.gilbertschools.net/moodle/course/view.php?id=1797 NECESSARY MATERIALS Pencils 3 Ring Binder HIGHLY RECOMMENDED MATERIALS Graphing Calculator SUPPLY WISH LIST Dry Erase Markers Tissues Hand Sanitizer Pencils Copy Paper Graphing Calculator: This year we will be teaching based on the Arizona College & Career Ready Standards (AZCCRS) that will cover the use of a graphing calculator. While a graphing calculator is not required it is highly recommended that students will have a calculator in the TI-83 or TI-84 family. My personal recommendation for a calculator is the TI-84 Plus C. A graphing calculator is a great investment as this one calculator will serve the needs of your student throughout high school and beyond. By having access to a graphing calculator at home students will become more comfortable with its features and be able to better support their education. When purchasing a graphing calculator please save the TI Points and submit them to their math teacher as we can use them to help buy classroom supplies. GRADING: Grading Scale: A 90% - 100% B 80% - 89.9% C 70% - 79.9% D 60% - 69.9% F Below 60% Grade Composition: 20% Semester Final Exam 55% Assessments 25% Assignments Homework: Homework is graded in 2 parts. The first part will be a home work warm up problem which will be worked at the beginning of class and turned in. The second part is the handouts which will be collected at the end of each unit for a total of 5 points each. Handouts will be checked and stamped at the beginning of each class the day after being assigned. If a student doesn’t understand the problem they may write 2 sentences about the problem to show they did not understand the question and will still receive full credit. All work must be shown to be considered complete. Absences: If a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility to pick up any missing work and make up any missed test/quiz in the absence time frame. Students will have one day to make-up work or tests for each day absent. (Review days are excluded). All missing work can be obtained on the virtual classroom Tutoring: Tutoring will be offered during the 2nd half of lunch by various math teachers. Students may also receive tutoring by appointment before and after school. Extra Credit: Extra credit will only be offered by the teacher at times where it naturally presents itself throughout the course. Extra credit will only be given to enhance the learning process. Students should take advantage of any extra credit opportunities as they arise in class. Students who do not do well on an assessment will not be allowed to retake or make corrections for additional credit. . Classroom Policies: All school wide policies and procedures will be followed in our classroom including dress code, bullying, tardy, food, and technology. Tardy Policy: A student is considered tardy if they are not in the classroom by the time the bell rings and headed toward their assigned seat. Consequences: 1st & 2nd tardy: verbal warning 3rd tardy parent contact 5th tardy: referral to Administration Electronics: Electronic should remain unseen and unheard unless given permission by the teacher. Consequences: 1st offense verbal warning 2nd offense picked up in the office at the end of the school day Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS): As members of the Coyote family, we pride ourselves on our dedication to Community, Values, Honor and Scholarship. Students are expected to meet specific positive behavioral standards both in and out of the classroom. These behaviors, such as being respectful and practicing academic honesty, are what make Campo Verde such an amazing place to learn. During this school year, students will participate in a school-wide initiative focused on the promotion and reinforcement of the expected standards of behavior Successful Students: Are focused Actively participate Set obtainable goals Self-evaluate and adjust Strive for constant improvement Are respectful I have read and am aware of the classroom expectations for Mr. Keyser’s Algebra 1 class.
