PRESS RELEASE www.kingslynnfestival.org.uk/press Monday 4 July 2011 King’s Lynn Festival organisers are delighted with ticket sales for this summer’s event which opens on Sunday July 17. “We have received phone calls and e-mails from people over Britain. I’m sure the wide interest in the programme is because it contains something to suit every taste,” said festival administrator Joanne Mawson. “The broad appeal is reflected in ticket sales which are good, despite the current economic climate, so we are very pleased,” she said. Some events, including the final concert by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, on July 30, are virtually sold out already, and fans of soprano Hayley Westenra will be travelling from far and wide to see the soprano on July 24. The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain have also built up a big following and they return this year on July 26 with an exciting new programme entitled Ukulelescope in which they will perform specially-composed music to accompany silent films including some little-seem gems. Another big name making a popular return to Lynn is violin virtuoso Tasmin Little who will team up with the European Union Chamber Orchestra at St Nicholas’ Chapel on July 19. Adding to the variety will be favourite British jazz singer Clare Teal who will perform much-loved numbers from the jazz repertoire at St George’s Guildhall on July 29. The festival includes two family events. Money Python star Terry Jones will be “in conversation” with BBC presenter Carol Bundock on July 25 when he will talk about his career and also the inspiration for his entertaining book of Animal Tales. The event is for adults and children aged six years and over. On July 30 at 11am Antony Penrose, who as a child was lucky to meet and befriend the great artist Pablo Picasso, will recall those exciting and interesting times which are the subject of his book, The Boy Who Bit Picasso. The event is for adults and children aged eight years and over. Leading names from the classical music world also include pianist Melvyn Tan, early music specialists La Serenissima, harpsichord player Carole Cerasi, and the Vienna Mozart Trio. King’s Lynn Festival Chorus will open the festival with the European Union Chamber Orchestra and on July 25-29 rising stars from the classical music world will present a series of morning coffee concerts in Lynn Town Hall.
