Monday, June 4, 2012 – The Nevada Cancer Coalition recently hosted its annual Cancer Control Summit, in which it named Patty Sredy, administrative director of oncology services at Saint Mary’s Center for Cancer, recipient of the Denise Faye Dunning Award. The award recognizes individuals who have exemplified the essence of passion and leadership in controlling cancer in their respective community, region or state. The Coalition developed the award program in honor of former State Comprehensive Cancer Control Coordinator Denise Faye Dunning, who lost her battle to cancer last year. Dunning’s passion and leadership was crucial to advancing cancer prevention, control and treatment in Nevada. During the award presentation, Sredy was honored for her vision, devotion and commitment to building and leading Saint Mary’s Center for Cancer and serving northern Nevada’s patient community. Sredy has led the spectacular and very rapid growth and development of cancer programs at Saint Mary’s since 2005. Her vision and leadership was instrumental in securing the region's first CyberKnife, receiving American College of Surgeons accreditation as a Comprehensive Cancer Program and receiving accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. Sredy also devotes her time as a cancer champion in the community and has shown support of all physicians and staff members involved with Saint Mary’s Center for Cancer services.
