“Nocturne” Acrylic – by Mitzi Bidner
Canadian artist Mitzi Bidner became interested in the arts at a very early age. She studied at the Museum
of Fine Art in Montreal under Arthur Lismer and Jacques de Tonnecour in the 1950s. Bidner owned the
“Soho Mercer Gallery” in New York City and Ottawa in the 1970s and 1980s. Her paintings have been
exhibited from the early 1970s to 2012 in museums, galleries and private collections.

Ottawa-born Gerald Trottier lived and worked in Ottawa and on Grand Calumet Island, Quebec. In 1943,
he joined the Royal Canadian Navy. He moved to New York to attend the Art Students League. His first
solo exhibitions were held in 1950 and 1951, where his watercolour works depicted street life in Hull,
Ottawa, New York City and the Ottawa Valley countryside. His work is in numerous public and private
galleries, including the National Gallery of Canada.

David Silverberg was born in Montreal on 1936. As a young child, he studied under the Group of Seven
master Dr. Arthur Lismer. In 1957, he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from McGill University.
Later that year, he studied etching and engraving with William Hayter at Atelier 17 in Paris. This
stimulating artistic environment included influences from Max Ernst, Marc Chagall and Matta. Silverberg
has developed his own style of engravings.
