After that page break, on the blank page, add a header that says Endnotes in the heading 1 style. 3. Add a second header that says References in the heading 1 style. 4. Click before the R at the beginning of References and add a next-page section break. Go to Page Layout: Breaks: Section Breaks: Next Page. Double check that the margins are 1.5 inches left and right for the entire document: — Go to Page Layout: Margins — Pull down to Custom margins — At the bottom under Apply to, change This section to Whole document. 5. Then prepare endnotes. Click in the text of the Endnotes header, before the next-page section break. Click on References tab. In the footnotes pane, click on the little arrow in the bottom right corner. Under Location, choose Endnotes button and change drop-down menu to End of section. Change the number format to Arabic (1, 2, 3). Apply changes to this section. Click Apply. endnote_placement.docx updated 3/1/2012 6. Go through each previous section of the report to suppress endnotes everywhere but the last two sections. The section that ends with the Endnotes heading should not have its Endnotes suppressed. The report will have more than one section if it has landscaped pages. To move easily from section to section, hold down the control key and type G. Select section and put in -1 to go to previous section and +1 to go to next section. To suppress endnotes: Click in a section. Go to Page Layout: Margins Pull down to Custom margins Click on Layout tab Check suppress endnotes. Repeat for every section except for the last one that starts with the continuous section break after the endnotes header. 7. Then insert an endnote. References: Insert Endnote.2 8. Get rid of the Endnote separator line between the endnote header and the first note. Go to View: Draft. Go to References: Show Notes. In the drop-down menu in the notes pane, select Endnote Separator. Select the line and delete. Select the return (which might be invisible, to see it, click on the paragraph symbol in the Home ribbon), and shrink it to 5 point. To go back to page layout, go to View: Print Layout. Then the references can be added after the endnotes.
