Since we have a limited budget for purchasing Library Books it is important that all students return the books that they have borrowed. Please check around the house and return to the school any books that you find that belong to Sandalwood Elementary. Thanks for your assistance! School Attendance: We appreciate the effort that Sandalwood Elementary School families are making in getting their children to school on time. It is very important that children start their day at school in a calm and relaxed manner so that they can gain maximum benefit from the instructional program. Thanks for your continued cooperation as we work toward making certain that all students arrive at school on time. Counselor’s Corner Avoiding power struggles and the negative punishment cycle is easier said than done! Removing privileges as a discipline strategy can be very effective when used properly. However, this can sometimes turn into a negative cycle that is terribly ineffective in gaining your child’s obedience. When two day grounding turns into an entire summer, and loss of a toy becomes a threat of “no Christmas” or taking away TV/Video game privileges becomes removing everything from your child’s room, you have entered a “negative punishment cycle”. Negative punishment cycles can cause major discipline issues in any house! To avoid these problems, please remember two things: 1. A child who feels some control over his/her life will spend little time and energy trying to manipulate or control a parent. 2. A child who feels no control over his/her life will spend much time and energy trying to manipulate the adults around him/her. Hopefully, this will help to keep the negative punishment cycle from spinning out of control at your house! Karen Knauer –School Counselor
