Here I’ll convey to you all about my family roots and history, where my family originated and the professions of my ancestors who were alive over the last century! My mom, Melissa Lynn Hayes, was born in Ohio in 1965. She traveled to Colorado as a newly adopted baby with my Grandma, Marilyn Louise Condit and Grandpa William Howard Condit and my Aunt Becky. My Grandpa and Grandma came to Colorado because my Grandpa transferred by the Air Force. My Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Becky and mom traveled by car to Denver. My mom’s roots originate in Columbus, Ohio and when she came to Colorado she left family in Ohio. My mom’s Grandma, Margret Fontel Condit, on her dad’s side worked as a nurse and her Grandpa, Howard Condit, died because of an illness. Harry McCafferty, her Grandpa on her mom’s side worked for unemployment during the great depression and her Grandma on her mom’s side, Meta Louise McCafferty was an artist and my family has many of her paintings hanging in our house. My Grandpa was a Pilot in the Air Force but I never knew him because he died before I was born but my Grandma is still alive and is almost 75, she never had a job although she modeled for the Air Force Officers Wives Club while her husband was flying. My mom works as a Computer Programmer at Pinnacol, she writes software for the Workers Compensation Insurance. My daddy, Milton Cecil Hayes, was born in 1963. When he was 10 years old in 1973 he came by airplane to Colorado on Thanksgiving Day. My daddy traveled from Bad Kreuznach, Germany because his dad, Rutherford Beaumont Hayes was sent to Fitzsimmons military hospital to recover from tuberculosis. His father worked as a Green Beret in Vietnam while he was in the military, he also worked in Transportation in Germany. Then he worked in the U.S. as a Truck Driver after his military career. My daddy’s mom, Elizabeth Marie Schromp worked at McGreggor Sporting Goods, she built shoulder pads for football teams and other athletes also she was a cook. My daddy’s Grandma on his dad’s side was a house wife but he didn’t remember her name, and my daddy’s Grandpa on his dad’s side, Joseph Allen Hayes was a farmer. My daddy’s Grandma on his mom’s side Oma Schromp was also a house wife and her husband, Garhart Schromp was in the German Army and died in World War 2. My Great Grandma and Grandpa on my daddy’s mom’s side lived in Germany and were farmers. Now my daddy works for Lafarge Concrete and drives a big mixer truck, he drives his mixer truck full with concrete to a job site. There the concrete is unloaded and poured; in fact I’ve even seen my daddy work before. Did you know I’m related to two former Presidents? My daddy’s Grandma on his dad’s side was the 18th President, Ulysses S. Grant’s granddaughter. My dad is also 5 generations grandson of 19th President Rutherford B. Hayes, which makes me 6 generations granddaughter of him! My mom and dad grew up in the 1960-70s and they’ve known each other since they were in Middle School! My parents, Milton and Melissa Hayes met each other in Delmar Park in 1977-78 and they went to school together. My mom was 13 years old and my dad was 15 years old when they met my dad even asked my mom to marry him while they were still teenagers! They enjoyed hanging out with friends and going to Elitch Gardens Amusement Park, seeing concerts at Red Rocks Amphitheater, playing Frisbee, and hanging out with friends at my dad’s house. While interviewing my parents my mom said, “We never really went to movies or any place you kids like these days, our parents just told us to stay outside until dinner.” “Wow,” I commented! Before they met my mom and dad loved to do things outdoors and sometimes on the other side of the ocean! My mom enjoyed horseback riding and piano while my dad on the other and adored being on his BMX bike with his friends sometimes in Germany and other places across the ocean. When he was 5-6 my dad had an appendix attack, how scary. My mom has lived in CO her whole life, well if you don’t count the time she was traveling to CO she has. Wow what times my family had before me, Rutherford B. Hayes and Ulysses S. Grant being elected as the 18th and 19th Presidents of the United States to my Grandparents and parents traveling here for the military, WHAT A WORK OUT!
