Outreach SNAPSHOT STATUS SHEET January 2012 Overall SNM’s Outreach Committee oversees the coordination of the 3 working group and Patient Advocacy Advisory Board. Dr. Andrei Iagaru has taken over the co-chair position from Dr. Eric Rohren. Dr. Henry VanBrocklin remains as the other co-chair. RBMs Dr. Erin Grady has joined the committee as the lead on activities related to Radiology Benefit Managers. The Outreach Committee is working with MITA’s RBM working group, led by Terri Wilson of Cardinal Health. With Terri’s help, we have designed a survey to SNM members and referring physicians relating to reimbursement and other barriers related to using PET/CT. Other activities the group will consider will be briefings at the six major RBMs around the country and presentation at administrator/office manager and RBM professional meetings. Public Awareness Times Square Jumbotron: SNM was given the opportunity to place a short ad on the Times Square Jumbotron to repeat throughout the day for a period of 3 months, beginning on December 26 and ending March 26. With the help of a contracted PR firm, SNM Leadership and Outreach staff created a clip from the patient video and approved the text for each screenshot. The Jumbotron ad is estimated to have 1,500,000 impressions daily. Facebook and Twitter messages have been sent to increase exposure. 1|Page Outreach SNAPSHOT STATUS SHEET January 2012 Oncology Working Group Commission on Cancer: Liaison is Eric Rohren. SNM Leadership met with CoC while at RSNA and came up with several opportunities for collaboration. SNM will be conducting a survey of CoC members, submitting a special study proposal to collect and/or analyze imaging data through the ACOSOG (member of the Alliance for Clinical Trials), and submitting names for inclusion on the NCCN-CoC Task Force. CoC will consider SNM proposals for augmenting its patient registry database with imaging data fields and for adding imaging as part of their accreditation guidelines ASTRO: Ambassador is Robert Atcher. SNM is collaborating on the January 2012 Head and Neck Cancer Symposium and has representation on the program and planning committees. We have proposed 2 sessions for the 2012 meeting: 1) Investigational PET Agents and Their Biologic Targets; and 2) Reimbursement of PET/CT. Staff is meeting with ASTRO staff later this month. ASCO: Ambassador is Andrei Iagaru. Our proposal for a joint session for 2012 on Criteria for Response Assessment and Timing of the Scans was accepted. Staff is also working with ASCO staff on other projects, such as additional collaborations on other, focused ASCO meetings, longer sessions at the 2013 ASCO meeting, and conducting a survey of ASCO members. Neurology Working Group Alzheimer’s Association: SNM leadership met with Alzheimer’s Association leadership and staff while at RSNA. They expressed interest in creating a joint guidelines task force for amyloid imaging, working together to educate referring physicians about appropriate use of imaging, facilitating our access to additional patients and patient groups, and linking to their Trial Match database. An Alzheimer’s Association early-stage patient speaker will make a lunchtime presentation at the Dementia Summit at the MWM. AAN: Ambassador is Norman Foster. AAN is considering the proposal on the potential of amyloid PET imaging to improve the quality of care for patients with neurocognitive disorders as a special “hot topic session”. Lewy Body Dementia Association: They are interested in co-sponsoring an awareness initiative with us and the American Academy of Family Physicians. They will also be submitting bios for consideration for PAAB representation. American Academy of Family Physicians. SNM has reached out to partner with this group and will likely begin work on a project with the Lewy Body Dementia Association. National Parkinson’s Foundation: At their request, we submitted an article on daTscan for their newsletter and resources for physicians. RSNA: Ambassador is Satoshi Minoshima. We are working on a proposal for amyloid and DATscan sessions for 2012. Cardiovascular Working Group American College of Cardiology: Ambassador is Prem Soman. He is reaching out to ACC to determine where SNM can provide expertise in the form of a session proposal for 2012. We plan to schedule a leadership meeting in December or January. 2|Page Outreach SNAPSHOT STATUS SHEET January 2012 American Heart Association: Ambassador is Marcelo DiCarli. Our proposal outlilnes were well received and we were encouraged to send in additional proposals. The working group outlined 10 excellent multimodality sessions for 2012, which we submitted to AHA last week. ASNC: Ambassador: Robert Beanlands. They are planning 4 regional sessions for community/grassroots outreach and is interested in having SNM join this effort. Staff met with ASNC in November and we have agreed to partner on safety on other initiatives as well. Patient Website (DiscoverMI.org) The patient website was launched on October 24th and has had a steady flow of visitors. The site is averaging 875 visitors per month, with 8% returning 5 times or more. The top 5 viewed pages (in descending order) are: o Diseases/Cancer o Diseases/Heart Disease o Diseases/Brain Disorders o About/Radiation o About/Molecular Imaging Traffic o 56% of the traffic is direct source (URL typed into navigation bar). o 31% of the traffic is being referred from the (in descending order) SNM sites, search engines, and Cancer.net. Facebook page has 4,736 followers. 565 people/organizations are talking about DiscoverMI on their own pages and the estimated weekly total reach is 375,000 people. Twitter page currently has 25 followers, some of which are RadiologyACR, AdvanceImaging, and CancerDotNet. Patient Advocacy Advisory Board (PAAB) A patient speaker from the Alzheimer’s Association will make a lunchtime presentation at the Dementia Summit at the MWM. The PAAB will be meeting at MWM to discuss priorities for the coming year, and strategies to involve the patient organizations in SNM’s initiatives. We are trying to prepare patient/consumer-oriented webinars on breast cancer, prostate cancer, lymphoma/RIT, thyroid cancer, molecular imaging of the heart and brain imaging. We have a new PAAB member: Elizabeth Wilson – Executive Director of the American Brain Tumor Association. We are also in the process of identifying members from the Parkinson’s Foundation, and Lewy Body Dementia Association. 3|Page
