SNAPSHOT STATUS SHEET
January 2012
Overall


SNM’s Outreach Committee oversees the coordination of the 3 working group and Patient
Advocacy Advisory Board.
Dr. Andrei Iagaru has taken over the co-chair position from Dr. Eric Rohren. Dr. Henry
VanBrocklin remains as the other co-chair.
RBMs



Dr. Erin Grady has joined the committee as the lead on activities related to Radiology Benefit
Managers.
The Outreach Committee is working with MITA’s RBM working group, led by Terri Wilson of
Cardinal Health. With Terri’s help, we have designed a survey to SNM members and referring
physicians relating to reimbursement and other barriers related to using PET/CT.
Other activities the group will consider will be briefings at the six major RBMs around the
country and presentation at administrator/office manager and RBM professional meetings.
Public Awareness

Times Square Jumbotron: SNM was given the opportunity to place a short ad on the Times
Square Jumbotron to repeat throughout the day for a period of 3 months, beginning on
December 26 and ending March 26. With the help of a contracted PR firm, SNM Leadership and
Outreach staff created a clip from the patient video and approved the text for each screenshot.
The Jumbotron ad is estimated to have 1,500,000 impressions daily. Facebook and Twitter
messages have been sent to increase exposure.

Oncology Working Group

Commission on Cancer: Liaison is Eric Rohren. SNM Leadership met with CoC while at RSNA and
came up with several opportunities for collaboration. SNM will be conducting a survey of CoC
members, submitting a special study proposal to collect and/or analyze imaging data through
the ACOSOG (member of the Alliance for Clinical Trials), and submitting names for inclusion on
the NCCN-CoC Task Force. CoC will consider SNM proposals for augmenting its patient registry
database with imaging data fields and for adding imaging as part of their accreditation
guidelines

ASTRO: Ambassador is Robert Atcher. SNM is collaborating on the January 2012 Head and Neck
Cancer Symposium and has representation on the program and planning committees. We have
proposed 2 sessions for the 2012 meeting: 1) Investigational PET Agents and Their Biologic
Targets; and 2) Reimbursement of PET/CT. Staff is meeting with ASTRO staff later this month.

ASCO: Ambassador is Andrei Iagaru. Our proposal for a joint session for 2012 on Criteria for
Response Assessment and Timing of the Scans was accepted. Staff is also working with ASCO
staff on other projects, such as additional collaborations on other, focused ASCO meetings,
longer sessions at the 2013 ASCO meeting, and conducting a survey of ASCO members.
Neurology Working Group

Alzheimer’s Association: SNM leadership met with Alzheimer’s Association leadership and staff
while at RSNA. They expressed interest in creating a joint guidelines task force for amyloid
imaging, working together to educate referring physicians about appropriate use of imaging,
facilitating our access to additional patients and patient groups, and linking to their Trial Match
database. An Alzheimer’s Association early-stage patient speaker will make a lunchtime
presentation at the Dementia Summit at the MWM.

AAN: Ambassador is Norman Foster. AAN is considering the proposal on the potential of amyloid
PET imaging to improve the quality of care for patients with neurocognitive disorders as a
special “hot topic session”.

Lewy Body Dementia Association: They are interested in co-sponsoring an awareness initiative
with us and the American Academy of Family Physicians. They will also be submitting bios for
consideration for PAAB representation.

American Academy of Family Physicians. SNM has reached out to partner with this group and
will likely begin work on a project with the Lewy Body Dementia Association.

National Parkinson’s Foundation: At their request, we submitted an article on daTscan for their
newsletter and resources for physicians.

RSNA: Ambassador is Satoshi Minoshima. We are working on a proposal for amyloid and
DATscan sessions for 2012.
Cardiovascular Working Group

American College of Cardiology: Ambassador is Prem Soman. He is reaching out to ACC to
determine where SNM can provide expertise in the form of a session proposal for 2012. We
plan to schedule a leadership meeting in December or January.
