MAIN PURPOSE OF THE DEPARTMENT AND JOB
AHDB-HGCA’s mission is ‘Delivering a world-class arable industry through independence,
innovation and investment’. As the export arm of HGCA, BCE (British Cereal Exports) has a
key role to perform in fulfilling this mission.
BCE strategy is driven by the needs of UK growers and cereal exporters. The role of BCE is
to promote the flow of information and trade between UK growers and traders and overseas
cereal buyers and processors. The Marketing Executive plays a vital role in ensuring the
efficient running of many of the projects that aim to improve this information flow. The
Marketing Executive will also be responsible for managing the ukp and uks export
classifications which are an important tool in the promotion of UK wheat for export.
Work comes into BCE from all sectors of the UK and overseas cereal industries. BCE is one
of the most visible sections of HGCA and has a high impact with regards to the image of both
HGCA and the industry as a whole.
Purpose of job

 To manage the production of all BCE’s marketing collateral
 To manage the ukp and uks classifications
 To provide marketing and communications support for BCE
DIMENSIONS: AUTHORITY LEVELS & DECISION MAKING
Budgetary control:
No direct budgetary control, working under direction of Manager. Budget responsibility for
individual project spend. Total project spend across all activities c. £280K
Requirements:
 Ensure project spend is within budget
 Request authorisation for spend from BCE Manager
 Maintain accurate records for management use on requisitions and project
expenditure
 Assistance in procurement processes making best use of funds

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for BCE’s brand identity in the UK and overseas
 Ensure the brand identity of BCE is upheld across all marketing communications
channels and platforms, including the use of BCE branding by 3rd parties.
 Develop and maintain relationships with 3rd parties to ensure BCE objectives are met
on time, to the highest standard at optimum value for money.
Provide marketing support for BCE
 Manage the production of all marketing materials eg brochures, flyers, adverts,
reports, corporate gifts and merchandise working with external agencies and internal
departments.
 Liaison with HGCA’s Central Store/Mailing house ensuring marketing materials are
correctly stored, re-stocking and ordering for events in the UK and overseas.
 Development and management of BCE’s image/photo library.
 Recording and maintaining client information on the database.
Provide communications support for BCE
 Development, implementation and evaluation of BCE’s grower communications
strategy.
 Delivery and evaluation of UK based events for levy payers and UK stakeholders.
 Work with HGCA’s Web Officer to keep site content fresh and updated and report
back on web performance.
 Work with HGCA’s Stakeholder Communications team to maximise PR and social
media opportunities and report back on performance.
 Copy writing and proof reading.
 Create presentations for internal and external meetings/events using Powerpoint.
 Delivery and evaluation of direct mailing campaigns both in the UK and overseas.
Manage the ukp and uks classifications
 Co-ordinate collection and delivery of wheat samples for quality testing working with
laboratories in the UK and overseas.
 Ensure results are received and analysed in a timely manner.

Present the results in a range of formats for a range of audiences.
Identify and realize opportunities to see ukp and uks logos.
Monitor and evaluate brand awareness and adoption of the classifications.
KNOWLEDGE / EXPERTISE / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS








Knowledgeable/qualified in professional area, including evidenced practical
experience
Higher level professional qualification e.g. CIM (desirable)
Good written and verbal communication skills
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Experience of the UK agriculture / cereals industry desirable but not essential
Some relevant international experience desirable but not essential
Marketing experience across a range of media, including experience in organising
events
Experience of brand management desirable but not essential

Experience of managing multiple projects including budgets and suppliers
Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to build long term relationships
Ability to effectively work individually and as part of a small team
Well developed IT skills (in particular MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases, email
and internet packages)
Experience of handling, manipulating and presenting numerical data using complex
excel spreadsheets
Ability to produce creative presentation material
Ability to travel in the UK with the potential of some limited periods away from home
