Job Description Electronics Engineering Technologist JOB TITLE: Electronics Engineering Technologist Reporting to: Engineering Manager The Electronics Engineering Technologist participates in documentation, electrical design, maintenance, and testing for Inuktun’s standard and custom system designs. Working in a team environment, this position contributes to defining and implementing electrical system designs and associated documentation based on system specifications. Purpose of the Position: Primary Responsibilities: 1. Prepare electrical drawings and related documentation. Key Duties and Activities: Under the direction of Electrical Engineers, create electrical schematics and PCB layouts using electrical design software (Altium), for use by external PCB manufacturers, inventory, production, and Global Shop system Compile list of parts and requisition parts as needed Contact PCB manufacturers for technical information, quotes, and delivery timeframes Create, import, review, and modify drawings from red-line or old drawings into the ePDM Vault system Create full working instructions and documentation for product manufacturing (complete electrical drawings, bills of materials, and work instructions where necessary) Certify that system assembly and wiring are correctly represented in official documentation Manage technical documents and revisions using ePDM vault software Create test certificates Provide input to development of operation and maintenance manuals Monitor and act on items logged in Mantis, in consultation with Engineering Team Participate in development of Engineering practices and procedures regarding electrical documentation management. 2. Design electrical systems, under the direction of senior engineers. Key Duties and Activities: Assist Electrical Engineers with design of new products and product improvements, including: Inuktun’s standard product line; custom modifications for clients; and fully custom equipment, with consideration to costing, material/component pricing, and production complexity/feasibility Review and check schematics and PCB layouts and other documentation for other electrical engineers, to meet Inuktun documentation requirements Prepare test document for engineering acceptance for new or custom equipment Collaborate with Software, Firmware, and Mechanical engineers, and technicians, and with other departments as required to complete design Manage projects using Wrike Research new technologies relevant to Inuktun. Assemble prototypes; integrate systems; test new designs, assess design failures, and recommend improvements. Key Duties and Activities: Bench test, troubleshoot, and modify newly developed circuit boards, rework designs as required based on testing Produce working prototypes Ensure system integration and compatibility Set up jigs for product testing Perform full testing; evaluate performance; analyze components and determine the cause of stress and failure; and document results Recommend corrections and modifications to improve performance Review schematics; determine and recommend corrections Update documentation to capture changes Troubleshoot and problem-solve to address problems with equipment to improve performance Make PCB modifications and part substitutions as directed. 4. Provide support to other departments and customers, as required. Key Duties and Activities: Perform established test procedures to test new software and hardware to ensure quality standards, working with Quality Control Follow product manual to make sure software or product functions as specified; identify and report any issues to supervisor and report on Mantis tracking system Work with electrical vendors and manufacturers and Production staff to resolve any problems in the manufacture of the product; suggest improvements to production processes Resolve issues due to obsolete parts Assist Customer Service with technical support in evaluating repairs and troubleshooting systems when required, including direct contact with customers as needed Perform onsite repairs when needed Update relevant documents to capture solutions/changes. Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not supervise any other positions. Qualifications – Experience: A minimum of 1 year of related electrical/electronic engineering experience. Experience with soldering, wiring, and general electronics assembly. Experience with Altium Designer is an asset. Qualifications – Education: Electronics/Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma from an accredited institution or equivalent. This position involves work with/around tools and equipment and live Any unusual physical demands or electricity in building/assembling prototypes, requiring safety precautions; may working conditions: involve occasional exposure to biohazards, immunizations recommended.
