JOB TITLE:
LIBRARY ASSISTANT

Head, Director of Studies, Senior Librarian

PRINCIPAL PURPOSE:
These tasks and responsibilities are not intended to be exhaustive and are more indicative rather than
definitive or prescriptive, however, it is important that there should be a general consistency in many of
the tasks that need to be undertaken by all Library staff in the better execution of their roles.



to work as part of the Library team to support the Senior Librarian in the efficient management
of the school library
to assist the pupils in use of library resources
to work closely with and offer support to teaching staff to promote their subjects to students.
KEY TASKS:









Supervising students using the library
Handling enquiries
Helping pupils learn skills in using a library
Processing and cataloguing of library resources
Ensuring items are issued/returned correctly
Shelving and shelf straightening
Monitoring use of the library and help to keeping library statistics
Maintaining security of library and its contents
Creating displays of work and new resources.
OTHER TASKS:




Be familiar with the College’s Safeguarding policy and comply with its requirements to safeguard
and protect the welfare of children.
Understand and comply with the College’s Health and Safety Policy statement.
Work with all staff to provide information requested by them for the efficient management of
Wycliffe’s financial and other administrative purposes to support the effective pursuit of
Wycliffe’s educational and pastoral goals.
Undertake any other key tasks which the Head may reasonably assign.
