Kindergarten Room 113 - Weekly News
Reading:
This week we will continue Unit 2 “Readers and Writers Make Sense of Text”. We will be focusing on asking and answering questions. This
week’s “High Frequency” words are: what, who, when, why, where & how. Have your child practice asking questions using the “high frequency”
words. The letter sounds we will focus on this week are /y/, /z/, & /v/. We will sort pictures by their beginning sound as well as practice
writing each letter. This week we will finish our author study on Mem Fox and begin Jan Brett.
This week’s Learning Targets are: I can draw and write to express my ideas. I can identify the beginning sound of a word. I can point
to words as I read. I can read the “High Frequency” words. I can ask and answer questions to help me understand a book. I can
retell events in order.
Math:
In Math we will finish our unit on 2D shapes. We will sort and compare 2D shapes based on the attributes. We will learn and play the game “Fill
the Hexagon”.
This week’s Learning Targets are: I can sort 2D shapes and explain my thinking. I can sort 2D shapes and explain my thinking. I can
use shapes to create a picture and explain my thinking.
Social Studies:
We will continue learning about units of time. This week’s Learning Targets are: I can name units of time and explain how they are related.
I can tell the difference between the past, present, and future.
Learning at Home:








Count aloud to 50, 100. Count backwards from 10, then 20.
Practice writing number 0-20.
Have your child practice writing his/her first and last name.
Ask your child what number comes after, example what number comes after 6?

Have your child practice writing the sounds he/she hears in words.
Practice using “today, tomorrow, & yesterday” when talking about events.
Practice reading and writing the “High Frequency” words we are learning.
