Class Information
Course Description:
This course aims to orient new faculty to the resources, policy & procedures, and
culture of Madison Area Technical College.
Course Format: One (2)-hour face-to-face (F2F) meeting with additional online activities (total 5 hours)
Class Schedule:
1. Upon hiring, your School office will direct you to the Part-Time Faculty Orientation Kick-starter registration
online (http://madisoncollege.edu/in/pt-fac-orientation).
2. Instructor will register and attend the Part-Time Faculty Orientation Kick-starter before their first day of
class.
3. Within the first 30 days of your first day of class, you will complete the required activities within the online
orientation course.
4. Report your hours online to be compensated for your time (maximum 5 hours in total). Your supervisor’s
office will approve this time based on your completion status.
Location:
2 hour F2F Kick-starter experience will be located at a location determined by CETL (locations
listed at orientation registration page). For the online portion, participants will choose a location.

Prerequisites:
Before attending this training, you are expected to have completed all pre-orientation activities including:
1. Contact the Human Resources department at 608-246-6900 (or contact your Supervisor’s Office) to
receive your Employee ID number
2. Activate your employee computer accounts online via myMadisonCollege
3. Apply for your One Card (Employee Identification Card) at your campus office or at Truax’s Student
Development Center
4. Apply for your college Parking Pass

Section 3: Summarize teaching resources available to you as a Madison College Instructor

 Print a class roster from Faculty Center
 Customize the syllabus template for your course

 Identify sexual harassment and know the procedures to deal with it

Student Responsibilities:
Students (who are instructors in this particular instance) are expected to be
familiar with Madison College policies and procedures. Many of the important policies and procedures are on
the Madison College website, located at http://madisoncollege.edu/student-rights-responsibilities.
Academic Integrity is an expectation in all Madison College classes. Plagiarism, cheating and collusion are
prohibited at Madison College. Plagiarism is defined as passing of another person’s work as your own. Students
who fail to observe these standards are subject to disciplinary action. Madison College has a strong policy on
Academic Misconduct which is published on the Madison College website. Please refer to this page on the
Madison College Website to review all Academic Integrity and Misconduct policies located at

Withdrawal:
If you choose not to complete the activities within 30 days of your first day of class, you will not
be compensated for orientation.
Attendance:
The two hour F2F session is required. The activities online must be completed by the end of 30
days of your first day of class.
Email:
Madison College offers an email account for all students and employees. You are responsible for
monitoring your email account. A link to your email is found at the top of the Madison College homepage
(www.madisoncollege.edu).

Instructor Responsibilities:
As your orientation facilitator, I commit to being available to you when you
need it. I will maintain a professional, safe online learning environment adhering to the policies of the college. I
will do my best to make you feel welcome here at Madison College and hope that you leave with a
professional relationship with a coworker. You can expect a reply to communication, be it via e-mail,
voicemail or in person, within 24-48 business hours.

Computer difficulties are not a long-term excuse for non-participation. If you experience problems with

many problems.
Blackboard Outages: Madison College does its best to keep our Blackboard classroom up and running.
However, despite our best efforts, our virtual classroom may go down unexpectedly. If you cannot
access our classroom, here is what you should do:
o Phone the help desk. They can often resolve your problem over the phone.
o Use your Adventure Journal to guide your activities.
