Preview Your Social Studies Book Project MAKING YOUR OWN MINI-SOCIAL STUDIES BOOK To assist you in learning it is important for you to understand how your social studies book is set up so you can successfully use it as a resource. This project is designed to help you preview your social studies book while receiving a brief overview of what you will be learning about this year in 6th grade Social Studies. Materials Needed: Social studies book Five pieces of white construction paper colored pencils/crayons pencils/binder paper ruler yarn Procedure: You will work in groups of three. Your group will be responsible for representing the following topic areas: 1. Mesopotamia 2. Ancient Egypt 3. Ancient China 4. Ancient Greece 5. Ancient Rome 6. India You will first need a left side margin of 1 inch. You will need a 2 inch margin from the top and then down the left side. Please see my example. As you preview your topic areas you will be looking for important key words to write down on a separate piece of binder paper that represent each topic. For example, you will have a set of key words for Mesopotamia, a different set of words for Ancient Egypt and so on. Each piece of construction paper represents a different topic area. In the 2 inch margin will be your key terms with a picture representing that key term. You will then make a bigger picture with all of your key terms represented as well as your topic area. (Be sure to write each topic area on the paper.) Be sure to color everything and include a cover page. Your cover page should include: the six topic areas, all of your first and last names, the class title, and the date. After you have all six topic areas completed, punch holes in your left margin and bind your book with yarn.
