recognized academic competition and leadership skills event created exclusively
for Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) students.

The 5K Run will take place April 25, 2015 and involve JROTC students, alumni,
friends, families and communities worldwide as organizers strive to set a
Guinness World Record for participation.
Norwich University is the first private military college in the country, and the
birthplace of ROTC. Serving all four branches of the armed services, Norwich
educates traditional-age students and adults through leadership training and
multidisciplinary academic programs. Students can enroll as cadets or civilian,
and choose from over 30 academic majors. Throughout an almost 200 year
history, graduates of Norwich have made a difference in the world as leaders of
business, government, and the military.
College Options Foundation (COF) will organize and implement the leadership
and academic bowl to assist students in their leadership and academic
development. Over 200,000 students from around the world will be able to test
their knowledge of English, math, science, leadership, and current events.
Teams of four high school students began the competition in an online, fastpaced game developed by ideas at Disney-MGM studios. Teams with scores in
the top 50% will advance to participate in Level II.
Top teams will advance to a live championship event in Washington, D.C. in
June of 2015. Over the course of four days, each team will engage in
competition, tours of selected sites in the nation’s capital, and engage with highprofile speakers.
College Options Foundation will also organize the Annual JROTC 5K,
commemorating the 99th Anniversary of the Army JROTC and 49th Anniversaries
of the Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps JROTC. There will be activities
throughout 2015-2016 as we approach the 100th /50th Anniversary Celebration.
College Options Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching
the academic development of high school students and assisting them in their
preparation for higher education by providing a total college preparatory
experience that combines study, testing, coaching, and competition. COF has
assisted the nation’s 1.1 million Department of Defense - JROTC programs
worldwide.
All competition participants have free access to the resources of COF’s “Total
College Success” Program - all of the information students need for college
entrance exam preparation (SAT, ACT), as well as for admissions, financial aid,
scholarships, finding the college of their choice, and overall college success.
“We are delighted that Norwich University has selected to support these
programs and these bright, motivated students. These students work and study
very hard to compete and win; they are leaders, mentors and heroes in their
schools,” commented Terry Wilfong, College Options Foundation President.
“As birthplace of ROTC, this is a natural fit for Norwich University,” said Frank
Vanecek, Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.
“We are thrilled to support these amazing students as they challenge themselves
and demonstrate leadership in these vibrant competitions.”
