Role purpose – overview
Zero Waste Scotland is funded by the Scottish Government to support the delivery of its Zero Waste Plan and
other low carbon and resource efficiency policy priorities.
Zero Waste Scotland is helping Scotland to become more efficient in its use of resources. As a facilitator and
enabler of change, we help to reduce waste, increase energy efficiency and promote responsible water use –
all as part of a journey towards a low-carbon, sustainable economy.
The Design Account Manager will lead on the management of the delivery of creative and design led projects
that support and enhance Zero Waste Scotland’s brands and professional reputation. You will manage a small
in-house and agency-supported service to develop creative responses to meet Zero Waste Scotland’s
marketing and communications needs.
Specific accountabilities








Oversee the provision of a comprehensive and effective design service within Zero Waste Scotland
that meets the needs and expectations of the business for high-quality design outputs
Have oversight of brand management across Zero Waste Scotland including our brand hierarchy
and ensuring that clear guidelines are in place for the use of our brands, supported by effective
brand management, including monitoring and supporting correct use of brands and addressing
incorrect use of brands, both internally and externally, across print and digital communications
channels.
Oversee relevant contracting frameworks and overall supplier strategy for design and associated
services such as design, print, storage and fulfilment services
Lead on the delivery of significant production projects, including exhibition management, as
required.
Act as the professional lead for design within Zero Waste Scotland, embedding design principles in
projects where appropriate and acting as lead adviser on design for internal colleagues and external
partners or agencies as required.
Work closely with colleagues to agree design requirements for projects at scoping stage.
Assist the wider Communications team with the delivery of communication projects, for both
internal and external projects.
Accountable for the management of external suppliers in ways which ensure that the support
provided is appropriate, up to date, consistent with Zero Waste Scotland’s policies and good
practice, and delivered within agreed timescales and budget

Attends events and contributes to conferences, seminars, information events, workshops, reports
and publications as required








Ensures all work is delivered in line with agreed standards for quality and consistency and defines
and champions good performance
Responsible for managing project spend to agreed parameters. Provides information to assist with
financial forecasting and profiling.
Provide line management support for Designer. 
Gathers and manages data and evidence relating to projects, to identify opportunities and risks,
and to support evaluation of activities; and inputs this information to Zero Waste Scotland’s
reporting processes, sharing it with the line manager and other colleagues as requested
Develops skills and expertise in disciplines relevant to the role, keeping abreast of new
developments and bringing these to the attention of colleagues
Maintains good level of professional awareness and knowledge of technical and policy
developments relevant to Zero Waste Scotland, sharing insights with peers and seeking to apply
these insights in practice to increase the effectiveness and impact of projects, and to the benefit of
Zero Waste Scotland’s overall strategy.
Ensures all work is carried out in line with the aims and objectives of Zero Waste Scotland and are
in line with the principles and operating parameters of the organisation.

Job essentials








Relevant further education training, or higher or professional qualifications
Experience of traffic management or account management systems in an agency or in-house
creative environment.
Experience of managing design-led projects within a creative agency or in-house creative team
Proven computer literacy.
Experience of managing the delivery of a wide variety of creative projects including brand and
campaign development
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills whilst managing a demanding workload
Experience of evaluating the success of creative projects and refining processes for improvement
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Experience




Experience of consumer and/or business-to-business marketing campaigns
Experience of using design and image manipulation IT software, with specific proficiency in the use
of Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
Experience creating and developing creative outputs.
