Role purpose – overview
Zero Waste Scotland is funded by the Scottish Government to support the delivery of its Zero Waste
Plan and other low carbon and resource efficiency policy priorities.
Zero Waste Scotland is helping Scotland to become more efficient in its use of resources. As a
facilitator and enabler of change, we help to reduce waste, increase energy efficiency and promote
responsible water use – all as part of a journey towards a low-carbon, sustainable economy.
To provide support in the Finance team, particularly in relation to the maintenance of core financial
systems and financial reporting processes.
Core accountabilities










Administration of the financial information system including set-up of new users and profiles,
creation and amendment of codes, closure of General Ledger and sub-ledgers;
Administration of Project Zone (PZ) including creation of projects, processing of information from
forms, resolving queries, creating new users;
Liaise with colleagues responsible for programme and project delivery to ensure that PZ has
complete and accurate records in relation to project documentation and finance;
Take ownership of any systems issues identified or raised by colleagues, ensuring they are fixed
where possible or reported to the software supplier and resolved in a timely manner;
Assist with the testing and development of finance systems;
Ensure documentation is in place for system related processes;
Train and advise non-financial colleagues in the use of systems;
Reconcile bank, debtors and creditors control accounts and suspense codes;
Assist senior colleagues in the Finance team with tasks in relation to e.g. the preparation of
budgets, management and statutory accounts. This could include processing journals, calculating
accruals and pre-payments, creating and maintaining spreadsheets, producing reports, analysing
data, preparing Balance Sheet schedules;
Undertake other related tasks as may be determined from time to time by your line manager or,
your line manager’s line manager.

High levels of numeracy;
Trustworthy and reliable;
Competent in the use of financial accounting packages and systems;
Confident and competent user of Excel and Word and desire to deepen knowledge of their use;
Excellent attention to detail and proven track record of accuracy;
Experienced in handling and maintaining confidential information

Desirable Experience




Part qualified accountant or working towards an accountancy qualification;
Previous experience in a similar role;
Assisted with the development of financial information systems;
Previous use of Access Dimensions and Focal Point.
