El Proyecto de Comida
Objective: To review food vocabulary, descriptive sentences, and research foods indigenous to the
Spanish speaking world.
Primera parte
You are a chef at a fabulous Hispanic restaurant. You are always looking for new, creative ingredients. One day, at the market, you came across a new fantastic ingredient that you want to integrate into your menu. The other chefs at your restaurant, however, are not as adventurous as you.
You must create a summary about your new fantastic ingredient to convince them to put it on the menu. Your summary must include:
Los paises. Where does the food come from and what countries grow it
Como se come. How is it cooked? How is it eaten?
Nombre. What’s the name of the food and how is it pronounced? Does it have different names?
Un plato tradicional. What is a popular dish that contains the ingredient?
Que tipo es? What type of food is the ingredient? Fruit? Vegetable?
Dos fotos. Include two different pictures of the food
Your summary will be bilingual since some of the chefs at your restaurant speak Spanish and some speak English. Your summary and pictures will be in the form of one PowerPoint slide. You will be graded on the following:
Los Paises: 5 pts.
Como se come: 5 pts.
Country of origin and where ingredient is grown are included
How it is cooked and eaten are detailed
Nombre: 5 pts. Ingredient’s name(s) and pronunciation are included
El Plato tradicional: 5 pts. A popular dish which includes the ingredient is included
El Tipo: 5 pts.
Dos Fotos: 5 pts.
The type of food is described
Two photos of the food are included
Organization: 5 pts Students are organized and turn in project on time
Evidence of Planning: 5 pts Students had in rough drafts on assigned due dates
Bibliography: 5 pts Students turn in a works cited with project
Creatividad: 5 pts Students are creative and use original thought.
TOTAL: 50 pts.
You will have one in class project work days in the computer lab Friday, April 11 th . This project will require at home research as well. Be sure that all information and pictures you use are cited and that you turn in a works cited page with your summary. The following is a time line of due dates for this project:
April 11 th : A rough draft is turned into Señorita Borer
April 16 th or 17 th : Final draft is due to Señorita Borer

Segunda Parte
Wow! With so many new ingredients, your Hispanic restaurant is going to have many new dishes. In order to incorporate all of them into your menu, you will have to put more than one in a dish. You will pair with one other chef (classmate) to create a brand new dish that includes both of your ingredients. To make sure all the other chefs know how to cook the dish properly, you will demonstrate in a cooking show. Your cooking show will include:
Bilingual instructions. You will explain how to cook your dish in step-by-step instructions both in
English and Spanish.
Pictures/ Props. Pictures or props will be used during your presentation.
Creatividad. Creativity!!! Be as creative as possible!
Your cooking show will need to have a script. You will work on this script with your partner on two in class project work days (Wednesday/ Thursday April 16 th / 17 th and Monday/ Tuesday April 28 th /
29 th ). Señorita Borer will need to see a rough draft of your script on both April 16 th / 17 th and April 28 th /
29 th . You will present your cooking show on April 30 th / May 1 st . You will be graded upon the following:
Pronunciation: 10 pts.
Spanish : 10 pts.
Pictures/ Props: 10 pts.
Creatividad: 10 pts.
Typed Script: 10 pts.
Correct Spanish pronunciation is used
Correct Spanish grammar and vocabulary is used
Pictures and props are used to enhance cooking show
Cooking show is original and creative
Script is typed and handed in before presentation
