Brownhill Infant School
Context
This is a smaller than average
infant school. Most pupils are
of White British heritage. A
broadly average proportion of
pupils are from minority ethnic
backgrounds, with pupils of
Indian and Pakistani heritage
forming the largest groups. The
proportion of pupils who speak
English as an additional
language is small with very few
at an early stage of learning
English. The proportion of
pupils who are known to be
eligible for free school meals is
below the national average.
The proportion of disabled
pupils and those who have
special educational needs is
broadly
average.
The
proportion of pupils entering or
leaving school other than at the
usual times is well below the
national average for primary
schools. The school is currently
led by an acting headteacher.
Batley Parish CE VA J, I and N This average sized school is

situated near the centre of
Batley
in
an
area
of
considerable socio-economic
disadvantage. Half of pupils are
from
White
British
backgrounds, whilst other
children come from other
heritages;
these
being
predominantly Asian or Asian
British. Around half of pupils
are learning English as an

higher than the national

Field Lane is an average size Early Years and Primary Age
primary school. The proportion Range
of pupils known to be eligible
for a free school meal is above
average. Almost all the pupils
are of Pakistani or Indian
heritage. Most pupils speak
English as an additional
language. There are a small
number
of
pupils
from
European backgrounds. The
proportion of pupils supported
by school action plus or with a
statement
of
special
educational need is below the
national average. Amongst the
awards the school has achieved
are Food for Life award and an
inclusion award. The school
shares the site with a Children's
Centre which is not run and
managed by the school.
The very large majority of the KS2
pupils at this slightly larger than
average-sized school are from
minority-ethnic backgrounds,
mainly of Indian and Pakistani
heritage. The remainder are
mostly of White British
heritage. Although the very
large majority of pupils speak
English as an additional
language, very few are at an
early stage of learning to speak
English. The proportion of
pupils known to be eligible for
free school meals has increased
since the previous inspection
and is above average. The
proportion of pupils with
special
educational
needs
and/or disabilities has also
increased and is well above
average,
although
the
proportion with a statement of
special educational need is
below average. The school is
accredited with several awards
which include Investors in
Pupils,
Leading
Parent
Partnership, Activemark and it
has Healthy School status.
Park Road School
The school is average in size Early Years and Primary Age
compared to schools of a Range
similar type. The proportion of
pupils known to be eligible for
free school meals is above
average. The percentage of
pupils who have special
educational needs and/or
disabilities is average but the
percentage of pupils with
statements
of
special
educational needs is above that
normally found. This is because
the school provides specially
resourced provision for pupils
with
hearing
impairment.
Currently, three pupils are on
the roll of this unit. Around 75%
of pupils belong to minority
ethnic groups. A large majority
of children are in the early
stages of speaking English as an
additional language on entry to
the Nursery. The school
manages a before- and afterschool club but does not
provide registered childcare.
Brownhill St Saviours VC Junior St Saviours Church of England Junior Age Range
School
Junior is an average sized
school. Pupils come from a
range of
backgrounds with a small
percentage residing in an area
of
socio-economic
disadvantage. The
proportion of pupils who have
learning difficulties and/or
disabilities, including those with
a
statement
of
special
educational need, is below the
national
average.
The
proportion of pupils
Mill Lane J I and EY School
eligible for a free school meal is
below the national average.
Most pupils are of White British
heritage. The percentage of
pupils who speak English as an
additional language is below
average.
More pupils than average join
or leave the school other than
at the usual times. The school
has achieved the Healthy
Schools award.
This is a smaller than average- KS2 (Years 5 and 6)
sized primary school. Provision
in the Early Years Foundation
Stage comprises a morning
Nursery and a full-time
Reception class, which admits
children in September. The
proportion of pupils known to
eligible for free school meals is
broadly average. The majority
of pupils are of Asian heritage,
with many speaking English as
an additional language. A
significant minority are from
White British backgrounds. The
proportion of pupils supported
by School Action Plus or with a
statement
of
special
educational needs is broadly
average. The school meets the
government’s current floor
standard, which sets the
minimum expectations for
pupils’
attainment
and
progress. A high proportion of
pupils enters or leaves the
school at other than the usual
times of admission or transfer.
The school provides a breakfast
club for its pupils. Since the
previous inspection, a new
headteacher
and
senior
leadership team have been
appointed. Approximately half
of the members of the
governing body are new to
their roles. The school has
achieved a number of new
awards, including Healthy
Schools status and the Inclusion
award.
Carlton J and I School
This is an average-sized primary Primary Age Range
school. The majority of pupils
are of Pakistani or of Indian
heritage. The vast majority of
pupils speak English as an
additional
language.
The
proportion of pupils known to
be eligible for free school meals
is average. The proportion of
disabled pupils and those who
have special educational needs
is well above average , whilst
the proportion that has a
statement
of
special
educational needs is above
average. The school’s Key Stage
2 results in 2011 met the
government floor standard,
which sets the minimum
expectations for attainment
and progress. The headteacher
was appointed in Sept 2011.
The school has achieved
Investors in Pupils and Healthy
School status.
Manorfield Infant and Nursery This is a larger-than-average Early Years and Infant Age
School
infant and nursery school Range
where the proportion of pupils
known to be eligible for free
school meals is above average.
Almost all pupils are of Asian
background with one third
being of Indian heritage and the
overwhelming majority of
others of Pakistani descent.
Almost all of these pupils arrive
speaking little or no English.
The percentage of pupils with
special
educational
needs
and/or disabilities is broadly
average. The school has
achieved the Healthy Schools
Status and the Activemark.
In addition to the children on
roll, the Nursery class also
caters for 15 day-care children.
While all the children share the
same facilities, the day-care
children and associated staff
Purlwell Infant School
are managed directly by the
local authority. A Children's
Centre is co-located with the
school.
The school is larger than most Early Years and Infant Age

average. The vast majority of

heritage. A large number of
pupils speak English as an
additional language and are at

provides extended services,
including family learning classes
and a parent-toddler group.
