and creative thinkers.
We build SKILLS for SUCCESS!
Dear Parents/Caregivers
ROOM 2 CAMP
The senior school camp in Arthur’s Pass last week
was an extreme experience for some of our students
who had never seen so much snow in their lives. The
temperature was also extreme and on the day we
walked up the Taramakau River, the temperature
climbed from -7 degrees to – 2 degrees. The river
crossings were fun and we reckon the water
temperature was either the same as the air temperature
or slightly warmer as there was no ice floating on the
surface.
We would like to thank our parent volunteers who
very ably assisted us on camp, transporting children
to, around and from camp as well as cooking up
delicious meals. We indeed were spoilt with their
culinary skills and the children also commented on the
great food. One of our students ate 6 sausages in one
sitting, after a rigorous day out.
There were many highlights but we think the river
crossing was the most enjoyed. This is a winter camp
that the children will never forget and we were
grateful to have such a wonderful experience.
TECHNOLOGY
Our Technology Unit is coming to an end and the
juniors have had a wonderful time making kites and
flying them. The have also created some beautiful
Fish Wind Socks. The seniors are still working on
finishing their unit.
STUDENT COUNCIL INVITE
This week the student council have elected to have
an end of term activity on Friday and they would
like to invite you to come along at 1.30pm on Friday
afternoon, join their house team and become
involved in a game of dodge ball! This will be in
place of an end of term assembly. School finishes
this Friday 3rd of July and resumes on Monday 20th
July. Next term is a 10 week term ending on 25th
September.
REPORTS
Student reports will be going out this Friday. Please
do not compare reports with others. All children are
unique and have their own personal strengths and
talents. The reports out this week are solely based
on reading, writing and mathematics. We have
altered the senior report format in keeping with our
review from the Education Review Office and views
stated by parents. We hope you will find them
useful and value any feedback you can give us. The
newer students in the junior room will not receive a
report at this point.
DROWN THE DROUGHT FUNDRAISER
One of the highlights of next term will be the
‘Friends of the School’ fundraiser on Saturday 25th
July with the ‘Bingo Night’ which promises to be a
great night out. Please book your tickets early so
that you don’t miss out. You can book your tickets
through Jo Gardner or Alice Henderson.
JOKE OF THE WEEK
Nonchalance is the ability to look like an owl when
you’ve just acted like a jackass.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
There are two ways of spreading light; to be the
candle or the mirror that reflects it.

POSITIVE PARENTING
Here are some more pearls of wisdom from Katharine
Kersey. You are probably doing most of these anyway
but if you spot a couple of new ideas try them out and
be consistent in doing so as that is the key.
We can treat our children with respect by letting them
solve their own problems.
Six Step Problem Solving Technique
1. State the problem.
2. Brainstorm the alternatives.
3. Select one possible solution.
4. Implement a solution.
5. Reassess the plan.
6. Start over, if unsuccessful
Enjoy your holidays with your children.
