Photo I: Mrs. Emily Daignault, Room 319 Welcome to Photography! In this course, you will learn the basics of photography as an art form. You will learn to “see” with a camera, understand composition and basic photography vocabulary, be inspired by photographers throughout history, and create beautiful photographs. Since photography is the most popular visual medium in the world, you will undoubtedly use these skills for life! Classroom Rules: Discipline concerns will be in accordance with the student handbook. All the rules will be strongly enforced to guarantee a safe and successful school year. First offense: Verbal warning Second Offense: Reported to office Third Offense: Parental Notification 1. Be on time every day. Class will begin promptly; be seated and ready to learn! 3 lates=detention 2. Phones/electronic devices are not to be seen or heard. 3. Lav/corridor passes will be issued when necessary and not a daily occurrence. Please ask for permission to use the lav and always sign out! 4. All materials/equipment are the property of the Hempfield Art Dept. Misuse will not be tolerated. Students are not permitted to operate any equipment without instruction and permission. 5. Be respectful to all. 6. Disruptions/talking during announcements are prohibited. 7. Raise your hand to speak. Give your undivided attention to the speaker. 8. Loud talking/yelling/vulgarity/horseplay will not be tolerated. 9. Leave books in designated area. NO work from other classes is permitted. 10. All prohibited dress, behavior, and language stated in the student handbook will also be prohibited in the classroom studio. 11. Students must remain with the class and instructor at all times. Photo-shooting assignments will be completed together as a group. No one will be excused from this. No student is permitted in the studio unattended. 12. Photo Studio: Hazardous chemicals will be used in the studio. Acids used in developing can burn and blind you. Powders are highly toxic by inhalation and moderately toxic by skin contact. With that said, gloves, aprons, and goggles are available. FOOD and/or DRINK ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED. 13. Please refer to the Hempfield Area School district computer policy found in the student handbook: a. b. c. d. e. f. Access to and the use of the District’s Technology Resources shall be considered a privilege, not a right or entitlement. Students are not permitted to install or uninstall any type of software on any of the district computers, any attempt to do so will result in disciplinary action. Severe disciplinary action will result if: i. One willfully attempts to damage the computer system/software; ii. One willfully originates or sends via the system vulgar, derogatory, or otherwise inappropriate messages, or; iii. One willfully originates, introduces or installs a virus, worm, Trojan, Malware or any type of computer program into the District-owned computer, or; iv. One causes a denial of use of the system through any method; v. One attempts to steal of steals any piece of equipment/software. Access to District technology requires the completion and adherence to the Technology Resource Ethic Code Agreement. Failure to adhere to the policy will result in immediate removal of internet privileges and/or other disciplinary actions based on the severity of the infraction. Inappropriate behavior may result in consequences such as i. The removal of internet and/or technology resource privileges; ii. Suspension and/or expulsion. iii. Prosecution under State and Federal laws where applicable. It is the position of the District that the ultimate responsibility for adherence to the Technology Resources Ethics Code Agreement rests with the user. Classroom Procedures 1. Be prepared. Always have any necessary materials. 2. All materials and work are to remain in classroom in the designated area. You will receive a portfolio to neatly store your work. No materials leave the room without approval. 3. All projects are property of the Hempfield Art Department. Understand that your project may be used for any exhibition or display inside or outside of the Hempfield Area School District. Please wait for teacher permission to remove project from studio/display. All projects will be returned by the end of the school year. 4. It is the responsibility of every student to clean and maintain the studio. Precautions must be taken to ensure everyone’s safety. This includes keeping your work area clean; performing assigned duties; safely storing projects, equipment, and tools in the appropriate area. If you are ever confused, just ask! Refusing to perform these duties satisfactorily may result in loss of points and or a discipline referral. Course Expectations 1. Content-rich, topic-related information will be presented verbally, visually, and in writing that relates lessons to classroom assignments, objectives and grading. 2. An assignment sheet describing each assignment will be distributed when the assignment is introduced. It will include learning targets, grading criteria, total points and instructions. Copies will be distributed and also accessible through the district website. 3. Points will be assigned for each grading criteria based on classroom performance and work completed. You will be responsible for properly filling out a grade sheet and submitting it attached to your projects. 4. Projects will be graded based on how you fulfill the criteria rubric. You are not graded on talent; you will be graded on how well directions are followed, effort, and work ethic. 5. Most in-class projects are 1-2 weeks in length. 6. You will be graded on various projects, critiques, presentations, sketchbooks, written assignments, and quizzes. Making up Missed Work – Your responsibility! 1. If are absent, it is your responsibility to see the instructor. Please do not come up to me at the beginning of class and ask what you missed. Use activity period for make-up work! 2. If work is not completed due to a legal excuse, the student will be given time outside of class to complete the assigned work. Unfinished work due to a legal absence receives and INCOMPLETE. 3. Incomplete work due to an illegal absence will receive 0 points and possible a LOSS OF CREDIT. 4. Due dates will be assigned based on overall class performance. Students will be given a fair amount of time for completing work in class before a new assignment is introduced. Students will have 2 weeks outside of class to finish any necessary work. ALL LATE WORK WILL RECEIVE A MINUS 5 POINTS EACH DAY. 5. All work must be handed in one week before the end of the nine week grading period. 6. Any student that feels he or she needs to have additional instruction or studio time may do the following: a. Seek help during activity period b. With teacher supervision and permission/pass-work in the studio during a study hall.\ c. Seek help during an assigned art night. d. Take work home with teacher permission. You must sign the class policy signature sheet. By doing so, you are acknowledging that you have read and understand the rules, expectations, policies and procedures of the art studio.
