RESEARCH PAPER High School Students Time: Paper due in 2 weeks Overview Objective To get the students to brainstorm an original topic, research it, and write a five page paper on the topic. After brainstorming and researching their topic the students will be able to write a well written and informative paper about what they learned. Standards 1) Standard 4: WRITING: Process The writing process includes prewriting, drafting, editing, and revising. Students progress through these stages to write clear, coherent, and focused paragraphs and essays. 2) Integrate quotations and citations into a written text while maintaining the flow of ideas. [11.4.13/12.4.13] 3) Review, evaluate, and revise by writing for meaning, clarity, achievement of purpose, and mechanics. [11.4.10] 4) Revise, edit, and proofread one’s own writing, as well as that of others, using an editing checklist. [11.4.11/12.4.11] 5) Develop presentations using clear research questions and creative and critical research strategies, such as conducting field studies, interviews, and experiments; researching oral histories; and using Internet sources. [11.4.7/12.4.7] Material Procedure Computer with Internet and a Word Document 1) Students will be required to use Wridea to brainstorm ideas for their research paper. 2) They must comment on at least three peers ideas via Wridea. 3) The students will then need to create a rough draft of their paper. 4) They will self revise and peer edit their papers. 5) The final draft must be submitted as a full 5 page paper with citations and references. Teacher will read each paper. Students will be graded on their level of research and using what they learned in their paper. Fluency, grammar and organization of the paper matters as well. Points will also be given for how well the paper was revised. Student will be graded on their use of Wridea for brainstorming.
