A warm welcome to all for session 2012/13! I am sure we will have a fun and successful year!
STAFFING
I have now resumed full time working however Mrs. Armstrong has decided to job share her post. Currently we
welcome Mrs. Grey who is working temporarily with the blue group until we fill the post permanently.
We currently have no additional support staff although we do anticipate another member of staff working with us
from October until Christmas.
ONTHANK NURSERY SCHOOL
As you will be aware we are currently joined by some staff and children from Onthank Nursery School due to a
serious issue with their building. We currently have 7 children morning and afternoon and two members of staff
Linda Armstrong and Mary Stewart supporting them. We anticipate that the number of children coming from
Onthank will increase to 20/20 over the course of the year.
CHANGE OF SHOES
Just a reminder that for health and hygiene reasons we would ask that you change your child’s shoes from
outdoor shoes to indoor shoes/ sandshoes in the nursery.
KITCHEN ROLL
We would be thankful for any donations of the above. We have plenty of tissues but the kitchen roll is
disappearing fast!
AITKEN DRUM – The Teddy Bear’s picnic
In an hour long show Tony Bonning, aka Aiken Drum, will entertain and engage the children with his madcap
songs and stories. Tony is a bestselling children’s author and is always a big hit with the children. Please bring your
child’s teddy with them on the day.
PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP
A member of the community has decided to try to establish a much needed parent and toddler group in the
village. If you would be interested in a parent and toddler group locally, there is an information / start up meeting
on Thursday 12th September at 7.30pm in the church hall. Children welcome.
COMMONWEALTH GAMES
As you may be aware Crosshouse has been paired with Australia due to Australia’s links with the village (Andrew
Fisher from Crosshouse was Australia’s 5th Prime Minister). We anticipate that the nursery will be included in
events and activities around this theme over the coming session.
EAST AYRSHIRE YOUTH THEATRE (EAYT)
EAYT has developed a new drama session – Little Story makers for preschoolers and their Mums and
Dads! These sessions will take children on exciting adventures where their imagination has the starring
role. Within these sessions you and your child will find yourself pretending, play drama games, singing
songs, dancing, role-playing and having lots and lots of fun! Each session the children will explore new and
imaginary worlds; one week they might be visiting the king at the castle, the next digging for buried gold
and the week after they could be jungle explorers. And although classes follow the same structure each
week (so children very quickly feel comfortable and relaxed) the topic and theme is always different.
Sessions will take place in Art Hall 1, Grand Hall from 10am-11am. The term dates for this block are 3rd
September- 26th November. The age range is 3-5 years and the cost per term is £30.
To book a place or for more information then please contact East Ayrshire Leisure’s Cultural
Development Team on 01563 554358.

IMPROVEMENT PLAN FOR SESSION 2013/14
We will be working on several changes including:





Changes to our curriculum planning process,
Literacy provision including more library visits, ‘letter of the week’, and further bookbug sessions.
We would also like to refocus or effort towards gaining our Silver Eco schools award.
Development of personal plans.
Administration of medicines policy.
We will perhaps require some help from parents to accompany us on library visits and to support our Eco schools
agenda. Many thanks in anticipation.
LETTER OF THE WEEK
Each week we will highlight a letter of the alphabet and would encourage you to talk to your child about that letter,
what sounds it makes and think of words beginning with the letter. This will commence next week (26.8.13) with the
letter ‘a’, and we will continue through the alphabet.
Please don’t hesitate to approach me or any member of the team if you have any questions/ suggestions about
any aspect of the service.
Kind regards,
Tina Gaitens
