Autism and Your Family Summer Workshop Series Designed for parents or caregivers of children on the Autism Spectrum Hosted by Danville Science Center (677 Craghead Street, Danville, VA 24541) Autism 101: What Autism Means for Your Family May 30th – 10am to 12pm Topics covered will include the definition of autism, what the diagnosis means medically, and what services children with autism may need. Your Child and the Community July 27th – 10am to 12pm This workshop will introduce parents to ways to take their children into the community, utilize social stories, engage their children in meaningful activities, and adapt to changes in route. This workshop will also give parents a roadmap to navigate through the Danville Science Center. Behavior Management: ABA 101 July 25th – 10am to 12pm This workshop will introduce you to the world of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). You will learn about the basics of behavior, consequence, and reinforcement. The IEP and IFSP and Your Rights as a Parent August 22nd – 10am to 12pm This workshop includes an in-depth look into Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and the rights that parents have in order to make informed decisions about their child’s education. This workshop is suitable for parents of any child with an IEP. Workshops are FREE to attend. Light refreshments included. Childcare is available for $10/child.
