The Cell: Week 3 Teacher: Shelley Ko Date: August 19- 23 Subject/Course: Biology Grade: 9th CA Standard(s): 1c: Students know how prokaryotic cells, eukaryotic cells (Including those from plants and animals), and viruses differ in complexity and general structure. Learning Objective (s): Monday/Tuesday: Given their guided reading notes from Chapter 7 of the text, SWBAT compare and contrast prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Student attainment of this objective will be measured by an exit slip assessment with a Venn Diagram containing at least 4 correct comparisons/ contrasts. Wednesday: Given their guided reading and Cornell notes, SWBAT describe the function of cellular organelles. Student attainment of this objective will be measured by an exit slip assessment where students are asked to match organelle names to their function. Thursday/ Friday: Given several review games and worksheets, SWBAT identify and describe organelles and their function. Student attainment of this objective will be measured by an exit slip assessment where student are asked to identify 8 organelles and describe their function. Essential Question(s): Why should cells matter to me? Assessment: Monday/Tuesday: (Exit Slip) Create a Venn Diagram and compare and contrast Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells. (Rubric score of 1-4) Wednesday: (Exit Slip) Match the 8 organelles on the left to their function on the right. (Score of 1-4) Thursday/ Friday: (Exit Slip) Name and describe each of the 8 organelles numbered on the slide and describe their function in a full and complete sentence. (Score of 1- 4) WHOLE GROUP Monday/Tuesday: Do Now: Magic Boxes (cell theory, nucleus, prokaryotic, eukaryotic) (15 minutes) Direct Instruction: Student Jobs & Review of types of cells. (25 minutes) Assessment: (Exit Slip) Create a Venn Diagram and compare and contrast Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells. (Rubric score of 1-4) (10 minutes) Homework: Write a summary of the Cornell Notes on “Tour of the Cell” Wednesday: Do Now: Magic Boxes (organelles, cytoplasm, nuclear envelope, chromatin, chromosome) (15 minutes) Assessment: Match Organelle to Function (10 minutes) Homework: Complete summary of Ch. 7 Guided Notes Thursday/ Friday: FULL BLAST! Do Now: Complete Vocab Magic Boxes (nucleolus, ribosome, ER, Golgi, lysosome, vacuole, mitochondria, chloroplast, cytoskeleton, and centriole) (15 minutes, then homework) Whole Group: review the expectations for each station in the BLAST model. (5 minutes) Assessment: Students will identify an organelle from a picture and describe its function. (10 minutes) Homework: Practice Quiz, review for test on Monday/ Tuesday! DIRECT INTRUCTION COLLABORATIVE STATION COMPUTER ASSISTED INDEPENDENT STATION Monday/Tuesday: Monday/Tuesday: Direct Instruction: Student Jobs & Review of types of cells.
