Organizational Summary: Keep Rockland Beautiful is a not-for-profit 501c3 dedicated to protecting and improving the
environmental health and beauty of our communities. KRB's programs focus on litter prevention and cleanup,
beautification, and environmental stewardship. Through civic engagement and environmental education programs, we
seek to inspire and empower students, families, businesses and members of local government to take greater
responsibility for protecting and enhancing their communities Our core programs include the Great American Cleanup
(GAC); environmental education (EE) programs, such as Earth BEAT for K-8 and a high school land use planning
symposium; resources and workshops for educators; litter prevention & enforcement, such as the Litter Bug Warning
Letters; and beautification projects like Artful Receptacles (hand painted trash cans).
Earth B.E.A.T. (Basic Environmental Awareness Training) is a K-8 program that engages students in an inspiring day of
interactive activities. These “Eco-Station” activities explore local ecology and farming, waste reduction and energy
conservation. Students make meaningful connections to curriculum and learn simple steps they can take to care for the
health of the environment and themselves. Keep Rockland Beautiful trains teachers and parents as Eco-Station
facilitators, supplies Eco-Station materials, and assists schools with event coordination.
Job Title: Earth B.E.A.T. Program Coordinator
Position Description: The Earth B.E.A.T. Program Coordinator assists in the development and delivery of the Earth
B.E.A.T. program. He/she conducts outreach for the program and works with school representatives to plan and
organize events. He/she assists in the development of student-centered, interactive Eco-Station and related servicelearning activities.
Reports to: Executive Director
Schedule: This is a September – June, 10 – 15 hours per week position, depending on the season and its activities.
Spring is currently the busiest season for Earth B.E.A.T. events.
Major Areas of Responsibility:




Outreach and promotion of program to elementary and middle schools
Work with school representatives to schedule event, select activities and coordinate the day (s)
Train parents, teachers, and consultants as Eco-Station facilitators
Develop creative, engaging Eco-Station activities
Primary Objectives:



Engage students, teachers, and parents in elementary and middle schools throughout all of Rockland in Earth
B.E.A.T.
Provide student-centered environmental education that complements the core curriculum
Inspire environmental stewardship and civic engagement

Specific Responsibilities:
Promotion and Outreach






Work with ED to develop outreach strategies to elementary and middle schools
Work with ED and graphics consultant to develop/update marketing materials such as program brochure and
event banners
Oversee promotional mailings to schools
Conduct outreach calls/correspondence to principals, PTA presidents and/or Cultural Arts directors
Schedule and maintain fall/spring event calendar
Assist with updating computerized database
Event Planning and Organization









Work with school representatives to select activities and coordinate the event
Prepare/update materials for selected Eco-Stations
Train parent/teacher volunteers as Eco-Station facilitators
Recruit/train/manage environmental education consultants (paid Eco-Station facilitators)
Oversee activities on day (s) of event
Develop and give Kick-Off presentations
Invoice schools
Develop and implement methods for measuring and evaluating program
Write letters of appreciation to school representatives
Curriculum Development



Revise/enhance existing activities
Work with ED to create engaging new activities that complement the core curriculum
Research and develop relevant service-learning units
Supply Acquisition & Inventory


Maintain Eco-Station supply inventory
Research and acquire supplementary educational materials
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:







High energy and passion for providing engaging environmental education in our schools
Excellent facilitation and interpersonal skills with both children and adults
Excellent organizational and writing skills
Ability to work well independently and alongside members of a team
Proficient in Word, Excel, and Power Point
Ability to work at home and in a small office environment with shared resources
Potential to grow along with the program and the organization

Education and Experience:


At least two years relevant work experience with excellent references
Familiarity with/participation in Keep Rockland Beautiful programs is a plus
Salary Range:
$17 - $20 per hour, depending on experience
