Major Cancer Prevention Study Works to Eradicate Cancer for Future Generations A unique opportunity to take part in a study that will ultimately help save lives If you could prevent your children/grandchildren/future generations from ever hearing the words “You have cancer!” Would you do it? If you could help the American Cancer Society create a world with more birthdays and less cancer, would you help? Here is an opportunity for you to be involved in the next wave of cancer answers and ultimately help save lives. The American Cancer Society is currently enrolling 300,000 participants in the Cancer Prevention Study 3 (CPS3) from 32 states. This is the third phase of a major undertaking by the American Cancer Society to better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that either cause or prevent cancer. It's a high-impact study that can shape the face of public health for generations - and you can be part of it! Enrollment started in 2006 and will end in 2013. The Hudson Valley Chapter worked hard to make sure that our local community would be selected as one of the CPS3 enrollment locations so that we could add our voices to this groundbreaking research. You can add your support to the hundreds of county residents who are offering to participate in this major study by enrolling today. Eligibility Criteria: 30-65yrs of age Never been diagnosed with cancer Committed to filling out questionnaires every few years for the next 20-30 years To Register Register on-line www.cps3hudsonvalley.org Attend CPS3 Enrollment at your scheduled time slot at one of the following locations: Blue Hill Plaza -- Good Samaritan -- Nyack Hospital Enrollment will take 20-30 minutes. Waist measurement, survey, consent form and blood sample. In the time it takes you to have dinner you could be helping save lives. You CAN Help Make a Difference This is not the first time in history that the American Cancer Society has embarked on such an ambitious endeavor. Many people know cigarettes are bad for you, but most don’t know that it took the American Cancer Society 188,000 participants, 22,000 volunteers and 3 years to determine that. Its CPS1 study in 1950 was pivotal in establishing a link between tobacco and cancer. The second study, CPS2 in the 1980, was able to link obesity with increased cancer risk, and the use of aspirin with the decrease in colon cancer risk. Thirty years later, this study is still ongoing and yielding more insight. These studies are only possible with community involvement. Regional Community Mission Manager Danielle Heller makes a personal plea to Rockland residents: "To the families and friends of cancer survivors and those we have lost, this is your chance to do something tangible in the fight against cancer and protect our children from ever hearing the words 'you have cancer'. If you are between the ages of 30-65 and never diagnosed with cancer, REGISTER TODAY TO SAVE A LIFE TOMORROW!"
