Eleanor Roosevelt was in fact known as one of the most active first ladies ever after
her service, and in service! But I find her “after-presidency” much more interesting. Eleanor
built an estate with her friends using the acres the Franklin had given to her. She had named
the estate Val-Kill. This took place in 1925 where she had also built a cottage along with the
estate for her friends and other guests. Val-Kill soon became very popular and she had
entertained many, many guests, including people from India, The Soviet Union, and Ethiopia.

presidential wife to hold a press conference? And did you know that she was the longest
serving first lady? (Wikipedia) Yes, she served from 1933-1945. (infoplease.com) that was
what Eleanor Roosevelt’s “after-presidency” was like.
