Nurse’s Notes
Jenks West Elementary School
Dear Jenks families,
Thank you for trusting us to care for your students while they are here at school. We have a
few policy reminders and general information for you.
Fevers: JPS fever policy requires any child with a temperature of 100.4 or higher must go
home. They are not to return to school until they have been fever free for 24 hours without any
medicine. This means they may not be given medicine to treat fever and then be sent to school
the same day. Please help us keep our students in school and prevent the spreading of germs
by adhering to this policy.
Vomiting: JPS does not routinely send children home for vomiting unless they have a fever
or a virus is suspected. If a child was coughing, running, choking on food, or may have taken
medicine causing the vomiting, they will be sent back to class. Our policy states that a child may
return to school the next day if no fever, vomiting or diarrhea have been present overnight.
Lice: JPS is a nit free district. This means that if your child has had lice they must be checked
through the clinic to return to school. They must be brought in by a parent, not transported on
the bus. We will carefully inspect your child’s head and if nits are found, you will be asked to
take your child back home, re-treat them, and bring back to the clinic the next morning.
Medicine at school: JPS nursing clinics do not stock allergy or cough medicine. If you wish
your child to have this medicine at school, please bring a bottle that we will keep for your child
and dispense as needed. A child is not allowed to carry medicine at school unless a doctor has
signed a permission slip for your child. This includes inhalers and medication refills as well. This
helps keep all students safe on campus.
Thank you again for the opportunity to serve you. We look forward to having a wonderful year
with you! Please call if you have any questions (918) 299-4415 ext. 5613.

Becky Galiger, RN, BSN
