The Garment Grabbers) will face the best teams in Canada at the FLL East Provincial Championships. They qualified for this tournament by placing 1st at their previous tournament. At the Woburn qualifying tournament they had the top robot score, but it's their research project (of providing sleeping bags made of used clothing to the homeless) that has gained recent attention. You can read about their project in the beach metro:http://www.beachmetro.com/2016/01/12/glen-ames-students-build-a-better-sleeping-bag-aspart-of-robotics-competition/ The team was also featured on yesterday's episode of Anwar Knight's News at noon along with two other top FLL teams! Good luck to the Garment Grabbers! A live feed will be posted on Schoology. ICT In January students at Glen Ames will have a chance to learn how to code using javascript! Students in grade 7 will be using code.org and Scratch while students in grade 8 have a chance to program a 3D game in Alice. Mr. Martin NEWS FROM THE POOL Super Swim Meet Our Super Swim Meet will be held on January 27, 2016 in the morning. The Super Swim Meet is a school-wide play day where the students race against their peers at their grade and ability level. There are also Belly Flop and Cannon Ball demonstrations and a relay race with the fastest Grade 7’s and 8’s racing against the teacher team. This is a fun, school-wide event that the students will be preparing for during their regular pool class. We hope and expect that all students will participate (if your child is unable to participate please send them with a note to excuse them from the event). The class with the best participation at the Super Swim Meet will win some free swim! As usual we need parents to help make this event run smoothly, and would appreciate parent volunteers to hand out ribbons. If you are interested please contact the school at (416)393-1800. Thank you for your ongoing support.
