Post-Graduate Research Opportunity (PhD Level 10) Job Specification Reporting To: Dr Barry Kirkpatrick (Lead Supervisor) and Dr Catherine Deegan (Co-Supervisor) Project Title: Automated Detection of Parkinson’s disease from Speech The Role: ITB is now looking for a full-time Research Student to work on a research project. This is a PhD studentship that has been funded for a two year period with the possibility to extend to 4 subject to progress and funding. This project will investigate speech processing algorithms to characterise the behaviour of Parkinsonian speech, with the ultimate aim of contributing to the development of a system that aids the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. Skills and Qualifications Required: Minimum skills/qualifications required: A 4 year honours degree in Computer or Electronic Engineering or an equivalent discipline Good programming skills Knowledge of digital signal processing Good written and verbal communications skills In addition to this the following skills are desired: Knowledge of Matlab Knowledge of speech processing Knowledge of biomedical engineering Experience programming mathematical algorithms Funding: This project is funded per annum for 16k€ from the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown. The funding of 16k€ p. a. includes 10k€ student grant, 4k€ for the fees and 2k€ for materials for the project.
