Welcome Note Dear Parents! Welcome to Fourth Grade! We have many exciting plans for the year. We will be going on fun field trips and learning a lot! As your child enters the upper grades there will be some changes that you may need to know about. The daily schedule changes for 4th and 5th graders. Your child will have one recess a day, in the morning from 10:25-10:35. There is no afternoon recess. Lunch is from 12:15-1:00pm. Also, your child will now be receiving letter grades on progress reports and trimester report cards. Grading is based upon academic performance, participation and growth throughout the year. We welcome parent participation and will be requesting parent volunteers for in school projects and field trips. If you are interested in being a room parent, please let your child’s teacher know. Sincerely, Mrs. Pat and Mr. Duff Physical Education Your child will be participating in P.E. classes twice a week. Fourth grade P.E. classes are held on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please make sure your child comes to school on those days with appropriate clothing and shoes. Music Mr. Gossett and Mrs. King come to fourth grade classrooms also twice a week to teach about musical instruments, California History through song and recorders. Music classes will also take place on Tuesdays and Fridays. In the 3rd trimester your child will purchase a recorder and a song book to learn to play an instrument. Supplies List In order for your child to start the school year full prepared, please make sure that they come with the following supplies. Backpack Pencils Erasers Manual pencil sharpener Scissors Glue stick Binder paper Colored pencils and/or crayons READING! Reading at home, as well as at school is a very important part of fourth grade curriculum. Fourth grade students are expected to be independent readers by this level. In addition to your child’s use of both classroom and school libraries, we highly encourage you to take your child regularly to the county library so that they my choose books in their interest area. Students will take a reading diagnostic test within the first few weeks of school and their level will be shared wit you.
