To Parents / Guardians of children in nurseries in Cumbria and Lancashire
Dear Parent or Guardian
Exclusion of children with diarrhoea Nursery
Infections which cause diarrhoea are common and can spread very easily among young
children. The staff at the nursery do encourage children to wash their hands frequently to
prevent infection. Children who have diarrhoea or loose stools should be kept off nursery
until they have had no diarrhoea for 48 hours.
Experience has shown that children with diarrhoea and vomiting are not are not always
kept away from nursery for 48 hours. This may be due to difficulty in making child care
arrangements at short notice however it increases the risk of infection spreading to other
children.
Please help us to reduce the risk of infection to all children by not bringing your child to
nursery if they have diarrhoea. If your child develops diarrhoea while at nursery the
nursery will contact you to collect them.
If your child is unwell and you are concerned about them, you should seek advice from
your GP.
Thank you for your help in controlling the spread of infection in the nursery.
Yours sincerely
