This challenging and rewarding leadership position is available for a highly motivated and committed educator with expertise in foundation skills program design and delivery, staff management and contract management. Based in Batchelor the position is responsible for the coordination and delivery of VET certificate courses delivered as part of a workforce development program for the Australian Defence Force. The appointee will be expected to: Be responsible for delivery of high quality program with excellent outcomes for participating students Build and maintain strong working relationships with Defence staff both on site and axially Provide leadership and foster excellence in curriculum development, delivery and mentoring services. Be responsible for management of Quality Assurance processes and compliance for course development and delivery; Management of both academic staff and mentoring staff including monitoring staff performance 1. Detailed Statement of Duties 1.1 Provide leadership in the development of students with the intention of progressing careers in the Defence services. 1.2 Deliver a quality program that assures outcomes which promote a culture of continuous improvement by leading the team and insuring timely, quality outputs are delivered to students. 1.3 Leadership and teamwork is very important in this role as the position calls for close working relationships with Senior military staff, students, mentors and lecturers. 1.4 Ability to plan and coordinate a team, arrange rosters, organise training, liaise with other departments within Batchelor Institute as well as external agents, such as; Police, Fire and Emergency Services, management of Barunga Festival, Batchelor Council, Batchelor Area school, Centrelink, and other government departments. 1.5 Lead, train and supervise staff to provide professional services to the DIDP in regards to helping students gain entry into the Australian Defence Force. 1.6 Improve student’s academic ability particularly in regards to English & Maths; 1.7 Work in conjunction with Defence staff to ensure an efficient and effective program.Work collaboratively as part of a small highly skilled team to provide policy, frameworks and consultancy support and resource development services. 2. Essential selection criteria 2.1 A detailed understanding of the Defence recruiting process and demonstrated ability to assist students overcome potential ‘obstacles’ to recruitment 2.2 Ability to conduct risk assessments and plan recreation and/or tourist activities of interest and relevance to Defence personnel 2.3 Experience within the Defence Indigenous Development Program (DIDP), the DIDP is a unique program especially developed to train Indigenous students in the Defence Services or similar 2.4 Financial management experience, specifically with budget control and reporting. 2.5 High level strategic, conceptual, analytical and creative skills including demonstrated ability to take a strategic approach and develop, implement, manage and review staff and procedures. 2.6 Appropriate tertiary qualifications and vocational experience relevant to pre- employment and workforce development programs for Defence personnel 2.7 Significant experience in and knowledge of, curriculum development, academic planning and quality assurance in Vocational Education and Training particularly in LL&N or Foundational Skills 2.8 Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain effective high level communication with Defence personnel, academics and mentors for successful program outcomes 2.9 Proven capacity to work effectively in culturally diverse teams and in cross cultural contexts, preferably within the social, political and cultural environments of Australian Indigenous communities and organisations. 2.10 Demonstrated high level of interpersonal communication and consultation skills. 3. Desirable selection competencies: 3.1 Experience of working within Batchelor Institute or equivalent dual sector, tertiary education environment. 3.2 Successful experience in working with Indigenous Australians, especially those in a military environment. 3.3 Light Rigid (LR) Northern Territory drivers licence NOTE: Copies of qualifications and evidence of experience MUST be submitted.
