Areas on Earth are separated into five different climate zones:
polar, continental, moderate, dry and tropical. Each climate zone
can be broken down into smaller categories. For example, the
tropical climate zone can be either tropical wet or tropical wet and
dry. This means that some tropical areas are wet year round while
others are wet for part of the year and dry for part of the year.

1. On a computer, open up the following page:

2. On the interactive map, you can click on different climate
zones to learn information about them. Click on the different
categories within your chosen climate zone. Choose one to
focus on.

3. Choose a specific city within your climate zone. You will
gather weather data on this city. What city do you choose?

4. Go to www.weatherbase.com. Find weather information on
your chosen city. You can search by first locating the country
and then the city or by typing in your city into the search box
in the top right corner.
5. When you find the information on your city, look at the data
charts provided. Find the data charts for “Average
Temperature” and “Average Precipitation”. Copy that
information below.

6. Use the information from your chart to create a climograph
for your city. Use the graph paper at the end of these
instructions.
7. Create a poster for your area. Be sure to include all of the
information in this handout on your poster, either in picture or
