SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Public Works Director, responsible for overseeing assigned
projects and participate in work for Streets, Cemetery and Storm Drainage, as well as
assisting other departments as may be needed in emergency situations. Responsible for
daily work distribution, maintaining work schedules, and providing technical instruction to
skilled and semi-skilled crews. Responsible for the Street Department related budgetary
constraints and requirements.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The below list is intended to be illustrative of the responsibilities of the position and not all
encompassing. The Town may change these duties at any time.
Supervises and assists staff in a variety of maintenance and operational activities including
but not limited to the following: maintaining the integrity of streets, storm, and cemetery
through road & street striping, patching, subsurface and surface repair, traffic control and
street sign installation, curb and gutter repair, maintaining the storm drainage system, alley
maintenance, snow plowing and removal, street sweeping, weed control including spraying,
mowing, and maintenance at Larimer County Transfer Station.
Maintains or arranges for operation and maintenance of all heavy equipment.
Maintains or arranges for operation and maintenance of all cemetery equipment.
Knowledge of automated sprinkler systems.
Assists staff with resolution to individual and/or employment issues.
Maintain attendance records of assigned employees.
Responsible for completing individual performance evaluations and recommends salary
increases, sets staff goals, maintains staff certification requirements and disciplines staff.
Performs specialized duties with limited direct supervision, performs a variety of basic to
skilled labor and technical assignments; accounts for tools, equipment and supplies used by
crew.
Prepares for crews by securing all needed equipment, tools, etc.
Assigns work load to employees and trains staff when required.
Maintain department records of personnel, equipment, and materials used in daily/weekly,
monthly and annual work performance.
Assists with preparation of annual budget for and monitors budget expenses throughout the
course of the year.
Maintains adequate inventory of equipment, tools, and materials for the department.
Makes recommendations regarding repairs, requirements and recommends corrective action.
Receives, responds to and resolves citizen complaints and inquiries regarding operations
maintenance services.
Performs related work as required and assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty

representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
Ability to use hand and power tools, operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, street
grader, dump trucks, snow plow, electronics, pneumatics and hydraulics and all other
equipment used in the Public Works Department.
Ability to read and interpret various construction plans as it relates to street projects and
water and sewer line projects, included but not limited to mylars and as-builts.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,
common fractions and decimals.
Considerable knowledge of the equipment, material and practices used in specialized areas of
Municipal Street, cemetery, and drainage system maintenance, construction and repair.
Knowledge in street design and maintenance to include proper snow removal
techniques.
Spraying/Weed control.
Supervisory experience in municipal environment desirable.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
Five years of public works maintenance or construction experience
Five years of experience as a supervisor or crew leader in a construction or maintenance
environment.
Basic computer skills including, Word, Excel and Outlook.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Commercial CDL Class B License and a satisfactory driving record required.
Must be available to work after hours as needed. On-call person required to remain within
30 minute response time.
Ability to obtain Roads Scholar Certification.
Flagger certification.
