Why embracing Catholic marriage
actually works
HUNTINGTON, Indiana, January 15, 2015 –In the new book, Catholic and
Married: Leaning into Love (Our Sunday Visitor, 2014), edited by Art and
Laraine Bennett, several well-known Catholic authors and bloggers write
about marriage – including their own -- with humor and the insight of hardwon wisdom. They dispel many misunderstandings about Catholic teaching
on marriage, and also describe how it’s possible to embody these principles
today.
Today’s pervasive culture of divorce, cohabitation, and contraception cause
many Catholics to share society’s unease about marriage, leading some to question whether a joyful and faith-filled
Catholic marriage is even possible. In Catholic and Married, contributors’ tell-it-like-it-is testimonials describe
what it means to be Catholic and married as they discuss topics like parenting skills, family size, effective
communication, characteristics of a healthy marriage, contemporary challenges, and coping as a child of divorce.
“Marriage is the adventure of a lifetime,” says Laraine Bennett, who been married to the book’s co-editor, Art
Bennett for 38 years, with four children and 2 grandchildren. “The testimonies in our book encourage people to
lean into love and hold nothing back – to experience marriage the way God intended it.”
