“Tuning in to Kids – Developing Emotional Intelligence” A Seminar for Professionals Working with Families in the Western Metropolitan Region followed by the Launch of the Tuning in to Kids Parent Resources in Community Languages In recent years, researchers have begun to identify a number of central skills that assist people to respond to emotions (in themselves and others). They have found that these skills are associated with much better life outcomes. The Tuning in to Kids parenting program assists parents to teach children how to understand, communicate and regulate their emotions. As the result of a successful partnership between Mindful Centre at The University of Melbourne, Parentslink at MacKillop Family Services and the Portland House Foundation, the parent resources of this highly regarded program have been translated into four community languages – Amharic, Arabic, Somali and Vietnamese. Come and hear from the two authors of the Tuning in to Kids program, Dr Sophie Havighurst and Ms Ann Harley and from Hien Bui, a Vietnamese facilitator of this program. Following the seminar Mr Frank Peppard, Chairperson of MacKillop will launch the new CD with parent resources in community languages.
