The Fundamentals of Drawing

Overview

Drawing is the groundwork for most visual arts. The eight-week Fundamentals of Drawing class is designed to introduce to some and solidify in others the foundational techniques of drawing. We will also explore the basic uses of various graphite pencils as well as other materials. Although this is not a college course, it is a power-packed lesson designed to boost the artist’s overall educational experience.

Goals

In this class you will:

 Understand the significance of light source

 Learn the four basic shapes of all visual art

 Learn how to use the various graphite pencils

 Draw still-life props

Brannon Carnes studied Commercial

Art (Graphic Art) at Oral Roberts

University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He continued working for the university until 1999.

Requirements

Whether in junior high, high school, college or just retired, this class is designed to build upon the foundations already established in each artist. To sign up for this class you must be 13 years or older and should exemplify a strong desire for drawing. [I will consider waving the age limit if a parent presents a portfolio from the child under age 13 that demonstrates an extraordinary gift in drawing.]

2000 from out of his home in Indiana.

Evaluation

One exam will be given at the end of the eight-week course. This course exam will be a written test to gauge the artist’s ability to comprehend the fundamentals of drawing. At the end of the eight-week course, artists that have completed all assignments and have taken the written exam will be given a certificate of completion. [This is not a college course; therefore, do not expect a college credit or the equivalent.]

Additional Information

 Course Fees: The Fundamentals of Drawing class is $25 per class. A $50 non-refundable deposit is required to begin classes and can be paid at the beginning of the first class. All other classes can be paid before the start of each class.

 Class Time: The Fundamentals of Drawing class is an eight-week course. One class session can last up to two hours. This includes a lecture and a lab. Artists are encouraged to arrive at least 10 minutes before class begins.

 Commissioning Discount: As a professional artist, Brannon Carnes welcomes the opportunity to be commissioned by any of his students to draw a graphite portrait of their loved-one. He is offering a special 30% discount to his students of a 9 x
