“How to See” drawing workshop run by Charlotte Giblin
Where: Wendy Walls’ Ridge Farm Studio Patumahoe (203 Ostrich Rd, Pukekohe RD4)
When: Saturday November 23rd, 10am – 3pm
What: Learn basic, classical drawing techniques to create a foundation for your artwork,
whether you are a beginner or an accomplished professional looking to refresh your skills.
The workshop will focus on “how to see” objects in a composition, correctly drawing
perspective and training your eye to look at ‘negative space’, shapes and angles in relation
to one another.
Cost: $68.00 per person
What do I need to bring?
You need to bring your own drawing materials: pencils (graphite, not coloured), eraser,
paper.
We’re focussing on composition and lines, so there is no particular “standard” of materials
that you have to provide. An ‘HB’ pencil (one you buy in a school pack) is fine, although if
you are used to using pencils in your artwork, feel free to bring as many different types of
pencil as you wish.
The paper should be no smaller than A3, so you have “room to move” on the page, and it’s
worth bringing a few sheets, or even a pad.
Bring an easel if you are used to using one, or you can draw flat onto the table- whatever
you feel most comfortable with.
All participants will be drawing the same composition, and doing the same exercises.
Format of the workshop
There will be an introduction by Charlotte and then the workshop will focus on two different
drawing exercises, one being a “warm up” study of shading and the second being a
composition looking at lines and angles. The group will be no larger than 10 artists, so
everyone will have plenty of tutorial time.
