SUMMARY: Art conservation is the profession devoted to the preservation of cultural property. Conservators
rely upon a combination of studio art, art history and material science knowledge to understand and best care
for cultural property. The conservation department at the Center for Creative Photography (CCP) is seeking a
qualified undergraduate student interested in learning first-hand about the field of art conservation. The
conservation intern will work under the supervision of the CCP’s senior photograph conservator. The
conservation department at the CCP focuses on preserving fine-print photographs and archive materials
including photographic negatives, artist journals, work prints, correspondences and other materials that
provide valuable insight into the lives and careers of many of the most renown 20th century North American

This internship will provide an introduction to the fundamentals of art conservation, training in proper
handling of fine-art photographic materials, and active participation in preventive conservation projects
including a condition assessment of film-based negatives in the collections. The successful candidate will also
assist with the conservation department’s preparations to host a Collaborative Workshop in Photograph
Conservation titled Plastics Associated with Photographic Materials from March 14-18, 2016. A full
